Atlas C630 universals

I have had many problems with these, so I did something about it... a new part replacing the Atlas parts entirely. I am selling them on my website www.briggsmodels.ca if anyone is interested in changing the parts out.

I hope this helps some people out.

Jeff,
Two questions:

- Will these universals work with the 2004 Atlas/China SD-7/9?
- What is the prototype for the flatcar kit on your site?

Thanks!

I really don't know if these universals will work for any other model than the Atlas/China C630. It is easy, however, to make a part that is correctly sized for the model you have, if you send me the distance between the flywheel and the inboard worm bearing. I made the hex shaft solid for strength and ease of installation, so you can't adjust it for other models.

The flatcars I am producing are Canadian Car and Foundry prototypes, with correct rivet patterns for CP, CN, and PGE/BCR.

You might want to consider making some for the SD24/26's, they were also often defective ..

I am game to make these parts for any model that needs them. There are a few key dimensions that may differ from Atlas to Kato to Life Like, so if you have a model that needs a fix, drop me a line letting me know what locomotive it is for, I will let you know the dimensions I require, and I can do up the parts and add it to my store.

Update- I have altered the design after some more testing. They are no longer hex on the ends of the shaft, but square, for more strength. The hex ones worked well but the square ends allow for more misaligent while having less rotational slop.

Wow I promise I do a better job at designing parts than I do at spelling.

Haha. I also model better than I spell and type, which isn't saying much!  Thanks for your contribution Jeff!  It's a great time to be in N scale.

Hello all that have slipping universals! I got number of people who asked if they could use the C630 universal set I designed, on other models. I don't think so, but I have come up with a solution for anyone that has slipping parts. I added a new page to my website, where you can send me the dimensions of your model and I can make the parts to fit. http://www.briggsmodels.ca/universal-sets.php It takes me about 3 days to get a set designed and printed.
