Atlas January N Scale Announcements

Ok, I am finding the new format a bit awkward - you have to scroll through to see what models are announced:

http://shop.atlasrr.com/d-424-jan-2018-n-scale-pre-orders.aspx

They do have a link with a PDF, which is much easier to me as far as navigation goes:

http://download.atlasrr.com/0118MCPDF/0118ASMCMSRPOnly_con.pdf

You'll see

  • SD60E announcement
  • SD50/60
  • Master 40' PS-1 Box
  • Trainman ACF 3560 Covered Hopper
  • 1997 F-150 Pickups

A couple of the box cars are must have for me:

N&W in the 1971 scheme:
http://shop.atlasrr.com/p-52190-n-40-ps-1-6-door-box-car-norfolk-western-44328.aspx

CNJ (always loved this scheme):
http://shop.atlasrr.com/p-52188-n-40-ps-1-6-door-box-car-jersey-central-cnj-20505.aspx

Probably others as well  :scared:

Looks like from the SD60E announcement that we could see a K5LAR24 as a separate part.

Now if they could just deliver products as fast as they can announce them ther would be something to discuss.

Anyone know the difference between EMDX and Oakway? Guessing these are after the Oakway power by the hour leases expired. Maybe with the "Leased to Oakway Inc" removed?

Am I missing something? The SD60s have a 2nd quarter 2018 arrival date? This seems really quick, but I would welcome it.

Cotton Belt PS-1 and EMDX SD60 are both tempting.  I know, I model a long time period.

I think you're right because they were all EMDX reporting marks when delivered.

No real difference. "Oakway" was never really an official term, something the railfans used.  But when these were new, they were always ID'd as "OWY 90xx".  Later they were changed to EMD, but apparently never EMDX in BNSF's computers.  The "Leased by Oakway" stayed on them until they were completely repainted.  Photos exist of them relettered GMTX and the "Leased by Oakway" still intact.

My understanding was that Oakway was the holding or leasing company that leased the power the units generated to BN. Thinking it had to do mostly with labor unions as BN crews didn't do maintenance on the units, but was contracted out, but the work was done in BN shops

Yes, that was exactly the original intention.    BN said they didn't own or lease the units, they were only buying "the power" that the prime mover was generating, so they weren't subject to existing labor agreements.  They had plans for acquire all future locomotives in that manner.  The Courts didn't see it that way.

I'm loving the Potash cars for Canpotex and the other one which escapes me right now.

Much cheaper option than trying to buy any of the PWRS cars, and they look almost as good when in motion on a train.

Hard to model the Pacific NW without one of these trains running through to Portland for export.

Are those EMD/Oakway models announced by Atlas good for modeling a mid-80s coal from the Burlington Northern?

I know they had EMD/Oakway 9000 - 9099 in use after 1986, but I don't know what reporting marks those SD60 were wearing.

   Javier

P.S. Looks like those Atlas models of the EMD/Oakway loco are missing the winterization hatches.
