Is this "Trainworx: the 21st Century Micro Trains" when it comes to collectability?  Actually, I think they are doing even better than Micro Trains ever did when it comes to becoming instant high-value collectibles.  But their runs of models are probably also smaller than Micro Trains, so there are fewer out there.

The runs are smaller, the products are not reissued with different reporting numbers, and (in my humble opinion) when modelers and collectors outside of the realm of model trains are taken into account, there is greater appeal for vehicles than there is for railway replicas.

This phenomena is considerably more prevalent in 1/64 and 1/87 scales.

All I've gotta say is: good for Trainworx!

I hope they're making a mint with them.

And that they then reinvest half that mint into the next project. Like plain trailers.

Judging by how quickly these sell and for how much they sell in the secondary market I still say that if they doubled the size of their exclusive runs, they would make "double mint" and have even more money to invest in future projects.   :|

Given the nature of how the Trainworx tractor cabs are decorated (i.e., using clear body castings) and how complex some of the detailing and paint schemes are, it is quite possible that Pat has secured a smaller outfit that may not be able to ramp up the production on the more intricate models as easily as a larger manufacturer could.

While manageable from the importer's stand point, it is quite probable that the smaller production runs have also driven up the per unit model pricing.

Ever notice how the time span between Athearn announcement and release dates appears to be longer than those for many other importers?

Trainworx tends to deliver products as quickly, or in some cases faster than the larger outfits, and Pat's scheduled delivery dates tend to be fairly accurate.

None of this would be possible if the order quantities were increased beyond the Chinese manufacture's production capacity.

I suspect the "factory reject" rate is fairly high for these models.  After gaining some experience, it still takes me about an hour to assemble a truck from parts.  Obviously the factory worker will be much quicker, but how many mistakes (ruined models) will be made?

And another one listed for auction at the original MSRP with bids already above it:

Like other liquor related collectibles, are beer trucks sought after by collectors?

With 35 bids, the short duration auction listing by N Scale Supply closed at $114.45 plus $7.50 shipping.

Simply a case of supply and demand; anyone still think MBK was asking too much when they sold all of their stock (70+ pieces) for the full MSRP of $64.95 each?

BLW already closed reservations - I have feeling that many of those will be resold in eBay.

Yep.

All I've gotta say is: good for Trainworx!

We can only hope.  I need several Trainworx plain trailers.  Looking at the Trainworx trailers makes me want to throw rocks at my MT trailers.

We now have a buy it now with only a 150% markup over MSRP and only $20.00 shipping.  I want one but not that bad.

Thinking about posting this to the "More Ebay Humor" thread on another side because the price would be humerus if it wasn't so sad.
