Merry Christmas everyone !!!!
Here is my set up in the Christmas tree . 2 trains are running and meeting or I can reverse the polarity on the tracks if I wish to run the other way .
Kato slanted double tracks .
Special 5/8" plywood ring with 10 ply .
Hope the picture will work , it has been a long time since I posted .
Sorry I don't remember to undersize it .

Nice!  Can you post a wider angle picture?  I want to see how you mount the plywood to the tree.

I'm so going to do this when my new house is built. I'm wanting to get the Kato Metra ONP sets to run around the tree. I've been wondering about doing exactly what you've done. Hopefully I have it next year.

If you look closely just at the front of the loco there is a small copper finished eyelet .
There is 6 like that at every 60 degrees .
I used #18 green colored solid copper wire going up at 45 degrees and attached to the trunk .
I used a tie wrap around the trunk to attach the 6 wires .
I used a level to grossely adjust the ring , it's easy to adjust with the wires going in the eyelet , simple and effective .
The ring is moving a bit up and down ( around 1/4" ) with the weight of the train passing but not enough to derail .

N scale is almost silent when they are not moving fast and you can let them running without disturbing people asleep in the house .

I had a Lionel O gauge around the tree and that was another story about the sound , could never run them !!!
Thanks ,
Louis

One thing you can do to stop the ring from moving up and down is to run another wire to a lower point on the tree. The upper wires support the ring while the lower wires under tension will keep it level.

Louis, yes now I see them after you point them out.  Maybe a lipped edge around the outer circumference in case the tree gets bumped to save the train.  Jbub's idea or lower stringers is a good one too to add to the rigidity.

Forget L girders and what not for benchwork.  We'll just hang our layouts from the ceiling!  :D

Just hope you don't have a cat! But that's really, really nice.
  Merry Christmas.

Looks like one of your rail joiners on the inside track is not inserted properly. Will give you a little bump.

Looks beautiful though. Wish my wife would let me do that too!

My project this week has been this test to refine scenery techniques:

More on the "how" in the layout thread.

Track-laying for Chetwynd Yard continues to progress toward completion.

South ladder with classification tracks finished:

Main track extended south of station and freight shed:

Next up are the ramp tracks, shop tracks and Canfor mill.  Last spike possibly during the coming week.

Will do that next year !!!!
There is not kid , cat or dog in the house !

Rick :
I did a check on the rail joiner and it is inserted correctly , I will filed the top of the high rail a bit , BTW all the joints are solder .
