New Atlas N 40' Rebuilt Well Car

Con-Cor made a model of a Gunderson 48' all-purpose well car in the past:

They are cool indeed.  Though truth be told, I doubt that many of the cut-down 40' wells that Atlas is offering are hauling trailers these days, unless they are 28' pups.

A search on Railcarphotos tends to suggest that the hitches were removed when shortened.  Anyone have a shot showing the hitch plate?

As per my earlier message, only the TTXs had the hitches removed on initial shopping, the NOKLs kept theirs

Very true and it's hard to imagine they ever did with a 42' length restriction. My gut says it was a case of why pay to remove the hitches if we don't have to?

Cool shots!  I didn't realize there were articulated AP sets (as opposed to drawbar-coupled, or standalone).  Apparently these started life as 48' wells in the series BN 67xxx.   There is another NOKL series (230500-230533) that started life as Mass Central that have not been chopped down yet.  Here is a shot of one carrying three 53' trailers (login req'd):

Could be, but my gut reaction is that's a 48' Husky cut down and not an AP cut down - it doesn't have the typical "solid" walkway support along the sides of the well or the lower well sidewall typical of the AP to allow side-loading of the trailers from the bottom base rail. You can see both of these in the photo Ron linked to:

It's definitely a confusing series and one that hasn't been documented well in the press.

Right, my bad.  That is definitely a chopped Husky Stack.

It appears that there are very few chopped AP cars (the Atlas model) in NOKL paint: 210050-2100xx, where xx could be a small as 59.  I'll be getting at least one though, and several of the TTX.
