I'm guessing one of the the main reasons Kato hasn't done the E7 yet is there were none on the Santa Fe, other than that, the UP, CB&Q, Pennsylvania, SP and now the Milwaukee all had them.
Just scaled down tooling of their HO model, which is also marketed under their Bachmann China range of products.
Doesn't automatically make it a Chinese prototype. It matches the MDC/Athearn car perfectly. My bet is that it's just a copy of that with no though to the actual prototype.fwiw, it's got a different ladder on the left side (which matches the Athearn car) as the Bachmann HO car.Jason
The HO model is a Chinese prototype which they later redecorated for sales on the US market.
Um, Great Northern had them too, which would require Kato releasing the EB.
The Railwire is not your personal army.
That ore car is pretty much bang on for the SP car... And matches bachman's old habbit of copying old HO scale tooling, not a chinese prototype...
Someone at Bachman musta' been smokin' dope - $33 MSRP for a single car that has the quality of an n-scale throwback?!
Exact same price as their recent 2-bay open hopper.

Maybe there is another scenario: the 1:1 ore cars were made in China and imported to US? If so then the Bachmann car is of a Chinese prototype.
