Oh, and I did note that the ore car's ladders seemed a little thick for my taste, but they are separate parts so it will be easy to upgrade.

They don't look separate.

I for one am excited about Atlas doing the GP39-2.

Paul said they had a bit of miscommunication with Pisani leaving just before the show.

The GP39-2 is NOT a Trainman loco.

It will be in the master line and will be in two phases.
The model out for show was indeed the late phase.

But they will also do the early phase and that will actually be the one they do first.

So this is VERY good news for me.  I need three of the early phase.

And contrary to any other reports, there was no mention of doing a mid-phase.

Here's the two I need from the first run to do a CSX patch job.

. . .  or careless or clumsy adult modelers.  :D

Clumsy adults, period. I was witness to a non-modeler at a World's Greatest Hobby show deciding she wanted a closer look at a "cute" building on a high shelf at the Bachmann display. In the reaching she knocked down the shelf with about ten N scale locos on it. Most did not survive.

Agreed. Very coarse. I have whiplash from being yanked back to 1968.

Doesn't even look to be worth the effort to scrape everything off the tub to make a resin master. Given the poor effort here, you know a major proportion is going to be off. I guess if I want a fleet of these, best to scratch or 3D model if I can find plans.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see a lot of announcements from the convention on this thread.
Is there somewhere else to look?

There was a link on about page 7 of this thread.
It was a link to the MRR new site.

Here it is again.   This about covers it.

There wasn't a whole lot new simply because most of the announcements were at Pittsburgh a few weeks ago.

I think the only things of significance that are new and not known before this show is simply the

Atlas GP39-2 in two phases
and the Bachmann SD9

Odd how they have a sample for the later phase, but announced roadnames that are early phase..  :?..I personally, would prefer the earlier version..

I thought this too, buddy of mine asked Paul at the show, he said they are doing both phases.  But does seem odd to announce roadnames for phase 1 body but show a phase 2 body

The clarification only stated that it was a master line, and they would do both body styles, however still doesn't make any sense to show off a phase 2 body when all the road names announced are for phase 1 bodies.

It does if that phase body is the one that there are final test shots of in hand.

It's also stated they do release the early phase first.

With only 239 locos produced, which ones were phase 1 and which ones were phase 2:

ATSF, BN, D&H, Kennecott Copper, MKT, Phelps Dodge, Reading?

Why did EMD discontinue phase 1 models? Did they have technical problems?

(I still think we need more switchers in N scale.)

Phase 1 was RDG, D&H, about half of the ATSF units, amd one unit it think for Kennecott copper. Phase 1 units had spotting features like the early models of GP38, with a larger 2 panel radiatior being the easiest to notice.

Phase 2 was BN, ATSF's later units, the Kennecott Copper high cab units, and I think Phelps Dodge.

MKT was the only user of the Phase 3 units, which had he same spotting features as a GP49.

Another visible difference is the amount of space between the cab and clean air room.
