Hmmm, the B&O car interested me as I grew up in Silver Spring.

The MTL photo does not show a number: http://micro-trains.com/image/data/product/2017/1707/1707-14400709.jpg

Here is the car in 2005 as "Silver Spring": http://abpr.railfan.net/abprphoto.cgi?august05/08-12-05/PSGR-B+O_Silver_Springs_Observation_B.jpg

Again: http://www.northeast.railfan.net/images/bo800329a.jpg

In 1973 as "Wayside": http://rr-fallenflags.org/bo/bo-bc905jpa.jpg

As "Wayside" in 1980: https://www.flickr.com/photos/78469770@N00/89579600

1987 as "Wayside": http://sd45.com/borosterx/pages/bop905.html

These are all #905 as referenced by Brokemoto.

So maybe it changed hands and picked up the 8000329 # and the name change (????)

Group;
Would it be correct to assume that this particular business car was previously a B&O or other road observation car and thus could be converted back to an observation car with a balloon roof by changing the window treatment or interior?

I am trying to get to a B&O observation heavyweight with the modernized roof profile and thought this car might be a good start.

Thoughts,
Bill

Bill,

Not sure what you are asking, but the balloon roof fits the MTL observation car.

That roof will fit any one of the three observation/business car body options we have.

I missed one... there is the 3-2 obs (144 00 001 etc) and the rebuilt obs (144 00 701 etc).  Is the third one of the bodies originally offered as a custom car (Lowell Smith, I think)?  I can't find a third body style on the MT website (probably just me and poor search skills).  Usually, if I want to check body styles and window arrangements I just go over to the MT passenger car shelf about 15 feet from the chair I am sitting in as I write this. Thought I had at least one each of everything, but you slipped one by me.

BTW, using the same prefix for the 3-2 and the rebuild is kinda confusing.

Isn't "Silver Spring" just the modernized buisness car body already released, but with B&O blue&gray paint scheme? And there is also an unmodernized observation car with rivets and paired windows.  That makes only 2 body styles.  What is the third?

What is the third?

The third should be the 3-2-lounge observation (at least that's what I am thinking).

Joe:
Thank you for that information. Is MT going to be doing any balloon roofs for the other heavyweight cars? Or perhaps modernization of heavy weights with balloon roofs as in the current business car windows and roof. I model the B&O and would love to get close to the modernized B&O heavyweights with the "betterment" roof profiles and the modernized windows.

Kind regards,
Bill

That is the one that I was "shorthanding" as the 3-2 obs, but of course you are correct, 3-2 Lounge observation.  I am assuming there are 2 different business car bodies, but I can't find the second of those 2.

Did I miss the BNSF fuselage train or is that shipping with the weathered releases? I never saw it come up over on Kleins.

On the MBK site, the mid-month releases typically don't appear until the following month's regular new releases are posted.
If you're interested in a specific new release, fill out the following form in order to receive an email notification once that item has arrived: http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/Articles.asp?ID=134

I like that BLW just sends the reserved stuff as soon as it arrives. I will miss that service.
