Amazing work ! Besides his layout Karl is a great guy , when I was looking for a long hood for my EJ&E SD38-2 he came thru for me . And the pictures of the Milw GP20's he did for that article in N scale railroading just don't do them justice, they are truly my friend Harz's pride and joy. Keep up the great work

Karl's handy work is shown off at the RPM - Chicagoland show every year via Harz's collection.  Great stuff!  We need to get Karl to come up for it one of these years!

My wife and I have been talking about a Chicago trip. I should look at the 2018 dates and make a trip up, it would be great to see everyone!

I haven't been focused on modeling too much lately. I have another article coming out in the next issue of N Scale Railroading, so I'm pretty excited about that. Out on the layout I've been trying out some new methods for blacktop. I did a sample on a dead end road in Rush City, this morning I got close to done on a grade crossing over the siding in Hinckley. I think it turned out pretty well. I'll be moving to some of my industrial areas next. I'll probably blacktop the road heading between the industries in North Branch before I tackle the parking lot at the flour mill in Rush City.

Farmers never through anything away... so I modeled the tires too.

The tires actually serve a purpose, they weigh down the tarp used to cover fermenting silage...

I laid some more asphalt, finished another grade crossing and built another building. Some days it doesn't feel like you are getting much done, but all the little things add up quick.
I blacktopped 415th St in North Branch. This road splits two of the main customers on the line. Here you can see Zinpro.

I also made the Titan-Lansing office. I will make their main sign tomorrow and plant some trees in the green space. This area is ready for some traffic.

Karl, what product do you use for ballast?

For my main lines I use Smith & Son #50 Penn/Ohio grey. For my yard I use Highball #125 brown, for my road shoulders I use Highball #025 brown. Real rock for everything. The tan looking lot around Zinpro I dug up and sifted myself as an experiment.

I had some free time yesterday so I made the HCl unloading shed for Zinpro. It feels good to finally have thins one done-ish. I still need to add some piping and other small details, but I'm happy with how it came out.

My foam core mock up of Zinpro worked, so I made the main parts of the styrene version. I painted the outside walls, and started add some of the loading dock details. I added the concrete slab where the semi trailers park and filled in some of the Class 5 parking lot. I have so much more to do, but any progress is good progress.

Thanks Wyatt,
I made a little more progress on it today. I added a few more items to the building and filled in more scenery.
