I've been doing some googling myself for my York needs. It's a surprisingly hard challenge. If only Streetview went back that far... lol.

Fact!  Google Maps will let me go back to 2007.  In fact, the Aberdeen Cafe sign definitely existed then.  Whether it existed in the 1980s is doubtful, but it doesn’t scream modern.

Thankfully, the signs in town are small or practically nonexistent, so I can probably get away with a lot.  Heh, I’ve done so many Google Maps drive-bys in Aberdeen that I immediately recognized the Kees Appliance sign before I read your post!

I definitely want to railfan there some day, too.  I was jealous of Lee when he visited Aberdeen several years ago.  At least I got measurements for the SAL station out of his trip.  ;)

Got a new tripod, so here’s a slightly different angle that I couldn’t get well before.  Up to now, I always had to prop the phone up on the layout, but not anymore.

The funny thing about that is that, every year when we’re on the OBX, I consider driving inland to Aberdeen.  I’ve hesitated each year, because it takes 5hrs 13mins one way.  In other words, it takes almost as long to get there as it does from home!

Maybe NOT in the middle of a heat wave, but I'd definitely be down for a trip in the fall.

I like this idea.  We’ve been known to rent cars for rail goonery in Pennsylvania for a weekend.  Hopefully, it’s not $500 to rent a large SUV, but if divided among a half-dozen :ashat:‘s, it’s much less painful.

My preferred brick-colored spray paint can has given up, despite attempts to flush out the nozzle.  So, I went to another red that I have (darker than I would prefer), which isn’t a huge concern, since most of the brick areas on this city block are on the backside that isn’t visible under normal layout viewing.  I may not even paint the windows and doors back there.  We’ll see.

This shot was with the camera held overhead and over the layout and is not a normal viewing angle.  Additionally, that white area will get trees to help divide Aberdeen from the furniture warehouse on the top of the hill.

Once this paint sets up, then I can start applying the rest of the painted facades on the front.  That should really start to bring this project around, even until I get the windows and doors painted.  Considering these were just four plastic walls glued together, missing doors and even roofs for about four years, this is progress for me- the lazy model railroader.

I should start a YouTube channel as The Lazy Model Railroader.  With a name like that, people couldn’t even complain about the lack of new video and content!  Haha!
