Spring has sprung:

Note: The small lawn areas are still sopping wet with white glue, but you get the idea.

April showers bring May flowers, but you have no shingles to keep the showers out.

Yeah, I had to order more decal paper when the first attempts failed.  Ooh, that reminds me that I also need to order toner for the printer.  Thanks!

Using my calibrated thumb/forefinger gap & squinting eye technique, the height of the chimneys above the roof peak appear to be the same as the space between the top of the main roof eve and the bottom of the dormer eve.

P.S. I confirmed the measurement with my tweezers.

All the time that I spent looking at Warren Calloway’s proto photo (reposted below), I never paid attention to the flower beds in front of the station.  So, to replicate those beds, I stained up some ties, glued them together, and filled it with ground foam:

Once the ground foam dries, I’ll plant some flowers.  I decided to keep it to one bed, because two beds on the model seemed like too much:

Looks good Dave; you could also add some sort of trash can/ash tray combo between the two doors on the other side. Gotta have a place for employee and passenger smoke breaks after all!

In the time period of the SAL / SBD -- you could still smoke inside buildings ..

Isn’t the main setting the SCL years? Either way, a trash can between the two doors could be a realistic detail to add opposite the flower bed if DFF wants to

The true era of my layout is the Seaboard System years (i.e., 1983-86), but I like to run alternative eras from time to time to keep it interesting.  Right now, it's 1971 or '72 on the layout, so it's the Seaboard Coast Line.  Down the road, I'll go back to the SBD and even to the early 1990s CSX era at some point.

For this reason, I'm trying to go generic on most details.  Automobiles can be a problem, and, in fact, right now, I have several anachronisms on the layout.  But, trash cans, crates, and an old baggage cart seem apropos for the station scene, regardless of the era.  Honestly, I'm not even sure when the Aberdeen station was shuttered as far as SAL or SCL passenger service.  But, on my layout, it will appear to be open, because it's the only station I have on the layout when I run passenger trains.

"generic" details. Like a cat scratching the mulch in your new flower bed after he took a piss.

Or a raccoon knocking over the trash.

Or...have some pulled cotton, painted gray and black sticking out of the roof like it's on fire or something.
