Do you have a Southern U23B and/or B23-7?

I do now!  U23B No. 3936 on home rails.  (That was then.  Now it’s on the SBD roundy-round being broken in.  Shhh, don’t tell anyone.)

I finally terraformed the area around the small parking lot inside the wye.  The result?  A flowering crabapple tree and some tulips.

While I was at it, I touched up the ballast and ground cover around the road crossing and approaches, which filled some serious voids.

A couple of different angles to give an idea of where this area is on the layout.  Eventually that far side will get SuperTrees to hide the background clutter.

I’m really happy with how the road crossing came out.  That was a lot of work and many hours.

Just perfectly done DFF, that looks stunning. Although I am surprised the town council didn’t make a flower bed with some mulch for those tulips  :D those Supertrees are looking fantastic, and you’ve definitely got the proportions right on their height!

It's funny that you say that, because I did sift some dark fine ground foam out of my batch of "forest floor" materials and glue that down as mulch under the area where the tulips are.  The glue is still wet in those photos, so the grass and mulch ground foam do not show well.  I'll have to look tonight to see if the mulch is visible after the ground foam has dried.  I contemplated making a flower bed with edging, but I was too lazy to scrounge up materials and build a planter.  ;)

Thanks,
DFF

Tonight, I built and installed seventeen SuperTrees and some scrub brush made of poly fiber, ground foam, and hairspray, to (sort of) screen the NS line from the scene in front.  I’m leaving gaps in the trees to allow access to the furniture warehouse when switching the plant and because I don’t want to completely hide that trackage.  Watching a train coming out of the woods and through the scenery is cool.  I’ve got a lot of work still to do on the scenery in front, including the pulpwood yard, but I’m working my way from the back to the front of the scene.

I went back and shifted a few trees to make sure that I kept this angle free for railfanning:

You’d be hard pressed to tell from this picture that this layout is primarily a roundy-round.  :)

I actually mixed a little sand into the ballast (at least on the portion on the far side of that turnout- I forgot to do so on this side), so a little more wouldn't hurt.

Thanks,

Dave you should add a vignette to that scene by placing a couple of these guys (depicted as railfans) along with a couple of smaller trees that they've
removed for a clear shot.

Haha!  That's great, Allen.  I particularly like the guy second from the left who looks like he's finished cutting and might be watching a train.  :D

Yeah, the roudy railfan clique of my youth fantacized about application of the aforementioned chainsaws to signal poles, which supposedly screwed innumerable photo ops, ‘specially if the pole line was south or west of the rails. Be careful what you wished for, guys, ‘cause you got it, in spades, and we are the lesser for it.  :(
