Well, the first attempt was a failure.  I was hoping to use the light gray primer and match the road coming down the hill, bringing the older pavement down to a logical place to meet the newer pavement in town.  Unfortunately, the weathering did not blend well, and I had a really obvious line where the new paint met both the older and newer pavement.  It looked wrong, although, on the bright side, the styrene seam is not readily apparent.

So, when all else fails, go for the dark gray primer and the obvious “patch” repair.  Not my preference, but it will have to do.  I’ll repaint some traffic lines and give it a light weathering when this primer dries.

Road's half closed, the Aberdeen public works is finishing up some water main work and are just finishing off the road patch. That fresh asphalt looks pretty sharp.

Done.  There’s no centerline in the proto-Aberdeen, so I stopped the striping here.

The next project that I’ll probably take on is to build the road crossing over these three tracks at the south end of Aberdeen.  The tracks are painted, but I’ll need to ballast before installing the road crossing pieces.

While I had the decal supplies out last night, I also finished Seaboard Central No. 1700.  I reapplied the gulls on the long hood, because I had to remove the first attempt when I couldn’t weather around the logos.  They’re supposed to look fresh, as if this former BN unit was quickly thrown into service by the SC before getting completely painted.  I also laid down a second layer of decals to make the white more opaque on the logos and reporting marks.

Now, off to see if I can come up with a picture to make MR’s Trackside Photos.

Thank you, Gary!  As noted last week, I’ve moved to the other end of Aberdeen to continue the road.  The first of many complex pieces of styrene to complete this road crossing over three tracks is just about roughed into shape.

The prototype crossing:

I’ve been piddling with this crossing for about one week and am almost across all three tracks.  A road section every night!  None of the pieces are glued down, so I can remove them to paint them.  I also installed some cork roadbed to support the extended sidewalk and a small parking lot opposite the former SAL station that remains to be scratchbuilt.

Get some styrofoam insulation and carve out a station!  :D

Looking good! All those curved crossings look like fiddly work...  :scared:

Yes!  Foam Depot: The Next Generation!  Hahahahaha!!!

Those curved turnouts are Walthers' turnouts made by Shinohara, so I didn't have to build them.  They probably work better that way.  :P

Turnouts are cool,  but I was admiring the curved styrene crossing sections... really good work!

That's where thin paper and a pencil lead come in handy to burnish across the rail tops setting your curve template.

...and it is nice work Dave.

Hopefully you still have the drawings I did for the SCL station.  I've been hunting through my archives and I'm coming up empty.
If you can print out the N scale version I did, you should be able to apply the standard ratio to blow up the drawings to HO.

I'll keep looking, though.  I drew that up two computers ago!

Thank you, and I do still have those plans.  See?  I need to start sourcing those windows and doors.

That's exactly what I did.  That and a lot, and I mean a lot, of filing.  The flangeways portion of the NMRA gauge has been indispensable.

Thanks,
