Boxcar red...

So I have a bottle of Floquil Boxcar red and I wanted to get more. I checked out the chart at Microscale:
https://www.microscale.com/Floquil%20Color%20Chart.pdf
That says Tamiya XF-64 is a match.

Liquid paint has a different hue than dried paint. But even taking this into consideration, the Tamiya paint doesn't seem to be nowhere red enough.

Micro-Mark supposedly had Vallejo Acrylic paints custom mixed to replace the Floquil RR colors - you might try them.

Then there are Tru Color and Scalecoat paints too - I prefer either of those over Floqil (because they have semigloss ready-for-decaling finish).  Once you try one of those (airbrushing), you will never used Floquil again.

I brushed them both out and they look exactly the same colors as the bottles.

I just looked up Vallejo at Micro Mark and couldn't find any custom colors.

I just found another chart that says Model Master 4881 is a match.

Hopefully this is a lot closer.

They sell them unter their brand name, but no boxcar red

But since you like solvent-based paints, give Tru Colro or Scalecoat II try. You'll like them.

The online mag Model Railroad Hobbyist  did a color cross reference chart. You might do a search on their site for it, was in the last few months.

Testors makes a Boxcar Red in the acrylic line (which also carries the number 4881 so it's probably the same).

This is good to know...  The "sun-faded" Blackstone D&RGW rolling stock is damned close to PolyScale Boxcar Red which I thought I'd never see again!

Finally... a resource that actually looks like the paint that is being discussed!!!  Thanks for sharing the link... I will be using this reference often (now I understand how to parts Caboose Red and one part Tuscan can make a good Tuscan red for N&W passenger equipment)!!!

Scalecoat Boxcar Red is of the more red shade that I think you are looking for, and Scalecoat is beautiful paint.
Yes, minuteman models is now the distributor for it.
