The RGS needed another water tank.  This is modeled after the Trout Lake tank right down to the calcium deposits and the position of the water level gauge.  The only difference is that I put the ladder on the opposite side for the scene it's going to (near Placerville).  I was originally going to put it between Ophir and Lizard Head just like the real Trout Lake, but the tank broke up the deep forest scene I used as a scenic divider and destroyed the illusion of distance between Ophir and Lizard Head.

So now it's not really a model of a specific tank, but its future location between Placerville and Windy Point means that operationally it'll represent Deep Creek tank or Ames tank.  I'll probably just call it Ames tank.

And, since I'm working on operations, it'll be a mandatory stop for any engine in any direction.

i have no idea how the CC works in terms of adding it to video and controling how it functions
but i thought it was really nice effect to have (what seemed to me in my experience watching)
that the chuff of the locomotive in the last couple minutes were captured in CC as "laughter"
and "applause" interspace with "music". i may be wrong but i did not hear laughter or
applause (even though that would have been appropriate response to the work you showed
(especially the "applause") but the CC seemed as if it were cued to the locomotive sound.

Wow, that's funny!  I don't think I ever tried closed captioning when I've reviewed the videos.  Laughter and applause...well, I can understand the laughter at my half-a$$ed modeling.  Applause is a stretch though!

OK, loooooong update.  You can see photos of the structures I just built for Rico in the 'Corona Projects" thread, but I got around to planting them.

First up the new tank for the line, styled after the Trout Lake tank (except for the ladder position which is reversed to better fit the scene) and operationally in a position similar to Deep Creek or Ames.  For operators it's now the Ames tank.



Now for Rico.  These are views of my “displaced Rico town scene.” The real town should be on the hill behind the depot… However, I really enjoy building three-dimensional structures and I wanted a nice, non-railroad scene that would convey the sense of a mining town past its prime. So I stuck it where I had some extra room on the north end of Rico yard. It’s actually not terribly intrusive when viewed from the depot area.

I have a couple of Mainstreet Heritage kits in fact working on two right now.
I think they may have closed as I could not obtain any direct last year.
Fortunately a good friend had a couple of extras he no longer wanted.
They are well made kits.

Amazing work!  Your dirt work looks so loose and natural, I haven't figured that out yet, not to mention I don't have the best dirt here in Oklahoma.  Do you leave it loose or is it glued?
