I need to slow this Atlas N scale GP40 down!

I am almost embarrassed to ask, but I don't know how to set Vstart CV02, Vmid CV06 and Vmax CV05 on this Atlas loco. I have been out of the hobby for about 10 years and have forgotten a whole lot. I have never had a Lenz decoder before. I looked up the manual online but it was about as clear as mud. Doesn't this involve setting CV29 to something? I read one of my Digitrax decoders and CV29 was set to 38. I changed that in the Lenz decoder but it still didn't help. I have all my locos running roughly the same except this guy is a bullet!

If you have access to someone with JRMI decoder pro, you can do this pretty easily ..  if not, just follow instructions in the Digitrax Manual for setting a CV or here

Those Lenz decoders do not have the three step speed settings using CV's #2, 5, and 6. IIRC, they have CV2 but no mid or max setting.
They do have the 28 step speed table. This is what you will have to use to slow the engine down. Don't forget to activate the speed table in CV29.

Thanks for the replies guys. I know how to read and write to the CV's. I am just having a hard time figuring out which CV's need to be changed to what to access the speed tables or v start/Vmid/Vmax. The decoder seems to support this. If I have the right manual.
I have been using the manual for the LEO63XF.

To be blunt, I'd replace the Lenz with something else if I were you.    The LEO63XF model number you posted should probably work though.

No Atlas factory decoder manufactured by Lenz supports CV 5 and CV6. Use the manual for the LE062XF or LE063XF. Speed tables have to be used. This requires programming CV's 67 thru 94. (28 CV's - one for each speed step).
In addition to make the decoder use the programmed speed table Cv29 bit 4 needs to be set to a value of 1 (binary), 16 decimal. So Cv29 will be programmed to either 22 decimal for short address or 54 decimal for long address.

If you still can't get it to work right, you may have an early Atlas eDMD decoder.  My RI units from 2004 have this.

I forgot to mention that since it is a Lenz decoder use Direct mode programming. You might also need to add a resistor across the rails or just program on the main.
