I've never had any luck with plastic electrical tape on ordinary wiring for those same reasons.  If I have to use it I then wrap it in duct tape to keep it on.

LOL!  In my experience duct tape's adhesive is even worse than electrical tape!  Talking about oozing after few months - duct tape is the worst!
If you buy good quality electrical tape it is not only soft and stretchable, but the adhesive is also stable. I use the 3M brand.  But as it has been said, electrical tape has no place inside N scale locomotives.

I have used capton tape to protect gold fingers on printed circuit boards when sending them through wave solder machine. Both the Poliamide and the silicone adhesive is resistant to high temperatures.  That was years before we started using it in DCC installes.

Not a good idea. If you want to talk "cold flow", this stuff has it in spades. I can see using it for, say, an adhesive for wires that tend to wander, but as an insulation in tight spaces, definitely not.

Wow is right.
Wish I'd known about that before I bought a roll of Kapton. Unfortunately/fortunately, the roll I *did* buy will likely serve as a lifetime supply. If I end up with more lifetimes however, I'll definitely go in search of polymide tape.
