@davefoxx could you please tell us more about the Motsenbocker's Lift Off you used and for how long you bathed it for?

Is it the same as this?
http://www.floodaustralia.net/products/stain_removers/liftoff-2.php

Thanks

@James Costello,

This is what I used.

I don't know what the difference between that and Motsenbocker's Lift Off 2 is, but they sound similar, looking at the ad you posted.  I don't know what the minimum time in the bath would be, because the first time I used the product, I forgot about it and left the part in for four days.  Oops.  No harm, no foul, though.  The second time I used it, I want to say I left it in for approximately 24 hours.  Same result, though.  The wax is gone, and over a few days the parts turn that white opaque color that you're looking for that shows that the wax is gone.

So, if it were me, I'd give the Lift Off 2 a try.

Hope this helps,
DFF

Thanks Dave, very helpful. I can't get Bestine in Oz so alternatives are always handy.

@davefoxx Dave, a suggestion regarding the end rails — see if the Kato caboose railings can be substituted.  It appears to be a close match.  It's been a while since I ordered some, but the railings should still be available on the Kato Parts website, as they aren't a high-demand item.

VM&P Naphtha should also work for you.  Sold as a thinner in hardware stores (in USA, but should be similar where you are).  Or Ronsonol Lighter Fluid is also the same stuff (Naphtha). The fluid used in the old Zippo lighters.  But of course Ronsonol Naphtha is much pricier than the stuff from the hardware store.

Still available in several colors. White have part# is 800428.  The FUD-printed handrails do look a bit clunky.  They also sell very nice matching brakewheels for a dollar per pair.  :)

I have some of the Kato parts in question left over from my B&M caboose projects, PM me if interested!
