Single Window Coach and other new cars coming from MTL

The Jan/Feb 2017 issue of the N-Scale Enthusuast magazine has an announcement from Eric Smith (MTL's CEO). It states that MTL is plannining to design, tool, and manufacture 4 all-new body styles in 2017. Single window coach is one of them (Puddy would be very happy)!  While that model has been mentioned in the past by @Shipsure , it seems that they might have worked out the molding problems and the car will be produced this year.

The other car mentioned is a Gunderson 70' Husky Stack car.  Third will be a 50'  box car and I guess the 4th car is a Z scale Lightweight Business Car.

Sounds like good times all around!

I hope the 50' Boxcar is a re-tool of the old squished one. They do such great paint schemes on it, but I've had to pass each time because it looks silly next to properly proportioned cars. I'd love for that calculus to be changed!

Also, awesome news about the coach.

What Ed mentioned, plus I hope it's a PS-1 with Low ladders, no roofwalk, and a wider more modern door.

Yep, we are doing lower ladders on the sides and ends and new brake locations, no roof walks and on the single sliding door the first option will be with a wider door.  We will also be adding photo etched brake platforms, lower the car a bit and have body mount couplers on all three.  The cars modified are the single door 50', double door 50 PS and the single plug door, all smooth sides.  I am hoping this is the start of a number of revamp projects going forward.  Within all these cars there are other variations...door sizes and types etc and we will address those in time.

We also have the single window coach starting up and this will be a NYC prototype with new 4 wheel trucks, body mount couplers etc.  Busy year.  Also look for some other upgrades including the first balloon roof to fit our Baggage car and then hopefully more to fit other cars in our series as appropriate and other details.

The Gunderson well car looks great and I believe those will be out for February?

Already doing research for 2017

A NYC prototype for the single window coach?!?  With 4 wheel trucks?  That's awesome.  Can't wait to see it.

Thanks @Shipsure for the additional details on the boxcars- sounds like they are past my 1956 layout date, but we'll see.

The single window coach.... I remember what seems like 10 years ago (trying to remember when their first HW cars came out), having an email conversation with someone at MT, when it was spoken of as the next thing after the 12-1.  So I have been waiting a long time. But I do respect them for waiting til they got it right- this must have been an expensive proposition, a lot of die work that went for naught.  If I still have any money left after the health insurance, car insurance, etc bills (I never would have guessed that insurance would end up costing more than the mortgage), I'm good for at least 4- although I am guessing I will need to wait for undecs and then paint my own.

The NYC is a good choice- many roads had very similar cars, so will make a good stand in or kitbash project.  And the 4 wheel trucks will no doubt be handy for several projects.

Thanks!

What about the body height from sill to eaves?  Any change?

Awesome news, @Shipsure.  Now, I'll repeat myself and remind you that there's three words you need to know for your N scale heavyweight passenger car line: Atlantic Coast Line.   ;)

Hopefully the ladders are still molded-on, not the clunky add-on unpainted ladders like the ones on the 40" hi-cube cars.  Of if they are separate, I hope that they are photo-etched metal (which looks closer to scale), painted with the car.

I could get behind that idea myself.  Judging by their ACL express reefer, they get much closer to ACL Purple than several of their competitors.

And L&N, NC&StL, C&EI... hmmm.... ok, might be best to wait until I find a part time job to augment retirement income.

Ha!  I just located and bought one of the MTL purple and silver ACL express reefers this week, as I'm trying to build a reasonable facsimile of an ACL Florida train circa 1958.  I body-mounted the couplers, and it's running and looking great!  Of course, it makes my Wheels of Time ACL baggage car look pathetic with its poor rendition of ACL purple.     Life goes on.

Joe, will these include replacements for the three existing 50' PS-1 body styles with roof walks or are they just going to be non roof walk additions to the existing line? Thanks.

Now I gotta go and change that page's title now that we know MT is doing this coach...

These will be in addition to the existing cars...we will be circling back around at some point to upgrade the roof walks...ends will be modified for the photo etched brake stands etc...On all the cars we refined what details we could...ride height on them are pretty much within a few inches of of proto but we will be dropping them down a little bit and that will apply to both roof walk and non roof walk cars.
