The pulpwood yard used to be on the left in this photo, in front of the folding ruler. That was my favorite scene on my N scale railroad, I must admit it hurt to demo it.

I had to tear down a couple of layouts in the past, so I know the feeling. This new layout will only be better! I enjoy following along.

On my n scale railroad the track went thru this opening into a closet under the stairs and looped back to a staging yard....

The opening was hidden by an engine house and an overpass over the yard. The HO tracks cant turn back in the closet, but i have interchange tracks dead ending in the closet. To hide the opening, i decided on a enclosed coal trestle. Still wasn't crazy about it, the view at the coal yard would work, but not so from further away, looking down the track.

So....i decided instead of trying to disguise the wall opening it was better to remove the wall opening.....

I added 1/4 drywall to extend the scene into the closet....

This will give the scene more depth...

I've been making progress but haven't posted in a bit.....
I was trying to figure a good way to hide this track thru the  wall....it's to close to the building to hide with a lot of trees

I am going to make a shadow box....I made a larger opening

Factory will extend further back beyond the wall, I will hide the edge with vertical equipments, dust collectors, etc. on the left edge will be another smaller building, power cables over the tracks between the two will hide the top edge of the opening.....

I will scenic whatever's visible and get some light back there....

Stay tuned

I haven’t posted in awhile, but I’ve been busy. I have an elevated coal branch....

With a tipple at the end...the green is from scrap plywood from kids (now out of college) room shelving.

@LIRR,

Looking good!  I'm eager to get along in the construction of my HO scale layout as you have.  By the way, it's been a long time since I last built an HO scale layout and clearly the offerings in track components by numerous manufacturers have changed big time.  What track are you using?  I'm considering mixing Atlas Code 83 flextrack with Walthers turnouts (I need their curved turnouts), and I'd like to hear how your experience is going.

Thanks,
DFF

Walthers c83 turnouts. Flex is walthers, or Atlas...whatever the LHS has on hand. the atlas & Walthers are substantially identical.

This is what I was hoping to hear.  Without an 1-1/2 hour drive each way to MBK, I can't do a side-by-side comparison.  Thank you!  Now, I can be a little more optimistic about placing an online order.
