I tried to rally for these in N some time back.   Not much interest from manufacturers so I began investigating doing a run of them myself, and then overnight got information from 2 different manufacturers (and eventually a third) that they were moving forward with them. (various flavors)   That was probably 7-8 years ago now.      There are some rudimentary versions on Shapeways, but nothing like these from ScaleTrains.com .   I would say I hope they do them in N too (and I honestly do hope that) but now I'm in Z so it won't help me at all.

Anyway, this got the adrenaline flowing this morning.   Good stuff.

I could use a handful of Great Lakes Carbon ~1970. These are slightly too late.

We had two carbon black plants near where I grew up, around Mojave. This region was attractive to these companies because the process was very smelly, with one of the byproducts being hydrogen sulfide which they (at the time) would vent to atmosphere. The isolation from population centers and strong prevailing winds would mitigate the stink (and hazard).

I applied for a summer job at one, but I wasn't a chem major, so they chose somebody else. But the father of a friend, neighbor and fellow MRR'er (he had TT!) was the plant manager for the Great Lakes Carbon operation, so my want for GLC cars of the day is both nostalgic and in fitting with my modeling period.

I think the was high hope that they would come on strong in the n scale market since their core group were coming from walthers who all but killed thier n scale line.

I don't think that is panning out though.  They now have 2 HO engines and 6 or 7 different HO freight cars either in production or being produced in only the last year.  Right now they only have containers (2 models and very modern) and one engine in the pipeline and that is all in n scale.  Kind of depressing.

every mixed freight I've seen down here in 3 months has a half dozen f these in them.  I"d be in for several.
