This (NKP 62) : http://www.nkphts.org/preservation/NKP-62-coach_2014Oct03_a.jpg

It's a fairly normal PS car, with A/C bulges,
it still exists, so it's accessible for measurement,
it uses top-equalized 6-wheel trucks, which I like and MT has already tooled, <Oxford Comma Alert!>
and it's NKP, which is what I want most.

However, there's a good argument to be made for a coach with 4-wheel trucks,\
in which chase this (NKP 90): http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1636026

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

OK  --  I vote for NYC because I really want your first effort to succeed and I believe that prototype would outsell all the others put together.

Now we wait for the torches and pitchforks...

I would also vote for the NYC coach simply because I could use a handful of commuter trains' worth of them.  Just don't paint them in two tone gray.   :|

Joe (@Shipsure ),

I shoulda said this in my earlier post, but... thanks for putting the question up for discussion.  Appreciate the opportunity to have some input.  The MT heavyweight line of cars has been a big improvement for those of us who model passenger trains, so hope they continue to be successful.

Maybe the best approach for me is general parameters- 78' to 82', 16 to 22 coach windows (plus whatever bathroom or hallway windows) each side, clerestory roof (at least available)- if you make something within those specs, I am probably good for several.

Or an ATSF 3050-69 would be fine with me, but that would be cheating (from the "single window" point of view).

Ok I won't ask anymore   :D :D    Nope, we had issues with the duel window coach and then did a computer sim on flow and that's when we started to see problems.  I think we have it under control now.

Joe

I thought we had been through all this a few times now. I'd also go with the Branchline car.

What about the car that is already tooled? Didn't MTL already tool one and the problem was cooling down before removing from the mold.
in my civvies here.  I only represent my grandmothers home made Mac and Cheese on Railwire.

I just assumed you already cut a mold and were having problems. Don't know if I read that or my own head told me

I have info for Erie baggage, RPO's, mail cars, Pullmans, Diners, Business cars, etc, but not much on coaches.  I say go for the NYC car or whatever Branchline/now Atlas did for their car.

The prototype for our model was built by Pullman, ACF, Standard Steel and others for the New York Central
System. Cars of essentially the same design were built for many other railroads coast to coast, and they served
many years in a wide variety of services

If you want I'll buy you one to measure  ;)

Can't lay my hands on a decent picture and I know this is odd saying this since I want to model the GN and NP but this NH car is a good candidate:

Or something generic like Athearn's modernized roof car.

I agree on a NH coach,in particular the 7800-7950 series. Originally built in 1913-14 by Osgood-Bradley Car Co.  Most were rebuilt by NH shops
at Readville Shops in 1934-35. The rebuilt cars are very close to the Atlas/Branchline HO Cars and the NYC.
A perfect solution for NH modellers as a single window coach and also the fact that some cars ran on 6 wheel trucks and the balance on 4 wheel trucks.

Full details of car numbers for either truck, those rebuilt are available.  Slightly better black and white photos are shown in "Passenger Cars of the New Haven Railroad" by
David R. Sweetland and Robert A. Liljstrand. It may now be out of print.

Hate to play the emotional card but...
How about a Canadian Pacific car.

Would be a good tribute to our friend Pud...

I'm all in favour of this! I may have done a kit, but a MT version would be awesome, and Pud would be thrilled.

And Joe, being completely biased as a NH  modeller, this model could be painted in 3 different schemes, from the early Hunter Green to the
so called  'Black Night' scheme

Where's Bussey on all of this?
I'm happy with anything that at least looks like a NH prototype, so I have heavyweight trains to run along  with the Rapido cars. I've also asked MicroScale to consider making New Haven heavyweight car decals, which would be good for us modifying or kitbashing MTL heavyweights.
