Atlas N RS-11 new release, DCC
« on: August 06, 2016, 09:41:34 PM »

Just got my NH unit delivered today. This evening, I went to set address with NCE Power Cab. I get this display, "PAG MODE CON NOT READ CV".
NCE manual says check loco, decoder and track wiring. Thursday night, I set address for Rapido FL9 with no problems. I do get rear headlights when loco is first put on program track. They go off, when I start to go through address procedure. What's to check on loco/decoder?
 Thanks,
 Joe D

The tabs sometimes do not make good contact from the factory.  Will the Loco run on DC?

Got it running. It did recognize decoder version while setting address, then it wouldn't. Just hit enter a few times. Was able to set long address. It was running on layout, then stopped, light on. Pressed on decoder board, and it would move, till I let go. Guess a dissasemble is in order? Frame halves were very tightly screwed together, too.

Send it back!  It is under warranty, Atlas needs to see if there are QC issues from the assembly point.

If it moved when pressing down on the board, it is just poor contact with motor tabs.  Disassemble, reposition tabs to a more upright position and reassemble.  Should be good to go.

Atlas has had this problem for years - it is a basic flaw in the design, there is no positive alignment in the motor contact strips.  I've seen this problem since the first Also 628C.

Yes this is probably the problem, and I have fixed many brand new locos with this issue, but if Atlas has to spend $ repairing new locos in New Jersey, they will eventually tighten up their QC in China, or better yet redesign the board power supply pick up interface issue.

Might give it one more try. Those clips on PC board are finicky. One kept falling off.
But Atlas needs to be held accountable for this QC issue.

Hmm... that'll only
encourage Atlas to not
improve the design

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
