Atlas FMC 5077 in hand — a couple of quick pics

The new FMC 5077 boxcars arrived yesterday. This is the best iteration of the prototype ever done in N scale and blows away all previous attempts.

Very nice indeed!  The ride height looks spot on.  How does it look next to an X58 (the N scale boxcar ride height gold standard)?  How are the body mount pockets done?  Is it incorporated into the floor to achieve proper ride height?  Or is the end slight notched?  Either way is fine with me as long as it sits where it needs to sit.  I plan on ordering some later today.  Thanks.

How does it compare to the MTL car? The Fox Valley and MDC cars are both plate C, but I always thought that the MTL could stand in for a plate B car if lowered.

I didn't check against an X58 but I will.  The ride height does appear to be spot on.  Body mounted Accumates in coupler boxes screwed to the floor, so easily replaceable with MTL 1015s.  The mounting point is outward to simulate the cushioned underframe.  If not, the MTL 1016 will do as a stand-in.  The end is notched to accommodate the coupler box, but not noticeable because the etched end platform is directly above it.

This is a plate B car, and superior to the MTL car in all aspects.  The MTL model most noteably suffers from compressed-height syndrome.
