Very very light fade on the slabside CN using light grey acrylic out of airbrush..followed by glosscote and rust and lettering bleed with oils...finished with Dullcote.

They look terrific!

I give props to those using oils to weather... I mean there's no going back.

I don't have that courage level– yet!

Actually they are more forgiving than acrylics because they don't dry as fast as acrylics so you have time to not only work the paint but to strip it off with thinners.

Well that is a problem and blessing too....a blessing because it allows you time to work with the paint or strip it off, unlike acrylics that dry so fast.

I've learned three tricks that speed up drying....1) and this is important...you squeeze the paint onto a piece of card, like an index card or a piece cut from a cereal box, the card absorbs some of the oil in the paint...(2) once you squeeze the paint onto the card, walk away for 10-15 minutes, that allows more of the oil to be absorbed and some to even evaporate into the air.....both these two things really help the drying time. (3) I put my model into the oven with no heat but the oven light on between painting sessions, usually 4-6 hours or even overnight...that really speeds up the drying.

Another method to speed the drying time is to add Japan Drier .

Very nice work! What brand/type of oil paint and thinner are you using?
I squeeze the oil paints on to a piece of cardboard to pull some oil out like you mentioned.

Thank you. No brand in particular..whatever I can get. I'm also starting to try water-based oil paints....they are very cool...dry a bit quicker than traditional oils.

Go to the TMTV website. You can get a short look at the vids offered to members. Mike has a series of a half dozen or so for cars and he's got another couple for engines. Entire "episode" devoted to processing a single piece of equipment. Various techniques shown. Oil painting for rust spots and streak very common.
