What I find fascinating about that photo is how it looks like a typical model layout: every available space in the yard is filled with track, the storage tracks are stuffed with rolling stock, and there's a retaining wall in the foreground that allows a gas station to be squeezed between the street and the rail yard.

Very nice scene Dave Foxx; I look forward to investigating those Supertrees when the time comes.

On the N Scale BCR Dawson Creek Subdivision, tracklaying is now through Sundance on the lower deck; installation of servo switch machines and connection of feeder wires to bus wires is next.

Looking east:

Looking west:

The tracks in the background are for Septimus (north staging) and will be partially concealed behind a scenic ridge.  The scenery slopes upward on the west side of the tracks at Sundance so that should work well.

The first train to reach Sundance was Work Extra 613:

Continuing my journey through my 55 years of paper MR issues, I have now conquered the 80s. The magazine is consistently in the 200+ page range and now up to $2.50 an issue.

I am surprised by the number of N (and Z) scale articles. (Where did they all go?). Sadly the H A Smith cartoons have pretty much disappeared and been replaced by a variety of cartoonists who don’t seem to have the same feel for the subject. Here’s the remainder of my HA Smith collection from the pages of Model Railroader:

1.1
1.2  “Er… Little Elwood wanted to come down and see your trains, but on second thought we really can’t stay.”
2.1  “Dear, as a surprise for your birthday, I repaired and repainted all those old weatherbeaten cars and buildings like new.”
2.2  “Want to bet I get an electric dryer by this time next week?”
3.    “Part of the hobby is collecting things. For instance, here’s an icicle that once hung from the roof of the Erie depot.”

1.1  “You’d better hide here. It never runs right when it knows a visitor is watching.”
1.2  “This federal subsidy will enable the Surburbia RR to embark on a $52 improvement and rehabilitation program.”
2.1   “Hello, Tom Edison? We have a wiring problem on our club layout that has everyone stumped.”
2.2  “It says, you weigh 39,400 pounds and you are going on a long journey.”

Also note the hopper car spotted off the turntable lead at the corner of the boilerhouse (obscured by the white  cooling towers), and what appears to be a doodlebug with two coaches behind it behind the gas station.   There does not appar to be a roundhouse, just a turntable.

Fun photo!

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Yikes! I remember "You'd better hide here, it never runs right when it knows a visitor is watching" from my Dad's collection. Unfortunately, it's not really joke, and it still applies...

The Potomac has come out of storage!  If it's metal it was added yesterday.  I also designed a new bolster that will isolate the two sides of the Miniatures by Eric Commonwealth trucks.

The tree bark rock face idea is genius. Not since stacked ceiling tiles broken off to make cliffs.  DFF - I can smell the humidity  of the Carolina's in the air.
Love those old MR cartoons, my favorite was a guy drunk with boxes of Champagne around him and his wife is on the basement stairs and he says
the federal government just approved my railroad grant.

Wow, that's a lot of rivets :o!
Do you have any tricks to make them stay in place?
Neat work, looking great!

Worked a little bit on my WOT flat.  The .020" styrene is a vast improvement.  I think I have a paint mix that will be close enough with weathering.  The pocket cutouts aren't as awesome as I'd wish, but I think once painted and weathered it will all be good.

Unfortunately the weight proved too tough to remove (without breaking something in the process).   :(

Yep, that's RF&P M-1 with a couple of coaches.  Interesting it was placed on that particular track.

Sure wish someone would make one of these... would love to have one if for no other reason than to be able to make one of these...

I came across this product called "id Backscenes" (http://www.howardscenicsupplies.co.uk/categories/Backscenes/ID-Backscenes/) at Caboose Hobbies today.

They're self-adhesive, but I have them temporarily installed using rolled painter's tape.  There's also a visible seam that will need to be trimmed when final installation happens.

The gentleman at Caboose said that the mountains in the photo are actually the Alps (although the product is labeled "Rockies") but they look a little bit like the Seven Castles formation on the Colorado Midland mainline east of Basalt (which is the lower of the two depots on my layout).  There are also a smattering of yellow trees on the backdrop that will look right with the aspen trees I plan to make.
