Anyone know if this car would be a close enough Foob for a New Haven car?
Trying like hell to justify keeping this car even though I can't seem to sell it.  :|

New Haven didn't have any of these beasts but cars of PRR and Seaboard ran through to Boston on a regular basis so it might not be the problem you think it might.  Alternately you may be able to find the etched brass sides that Eastern Seaboard Models made for NH sleepers and kitbash something more appropriate.

Jon:

I have a set of sides for a New Haven "Beach" series 14/4 that I probably will never use, and maybe an American Limited core kit to go along with them.  PM me if interested.

I believe this car was based on a NYC prototype.

Ah... no.  It is a model of a Pullman Standard sleeper that was built for the Atlantic Coast Line, Florida East Coast, Pennsylvania and Richmond Fredricksburg & Potomac (non-ACL cars used in conjunction with ACL Florida trains).

Find the names of the ACL Florida trains and you will have the names... they ran through to New York via the north east corridor (actually, if I can find my ACL book by Larry Goolsby then I can tell you their names).  Later on they were used about wherever Pullman wanted them to be, even off-line, since they were operated by Pullman.

You could also make an argument that the Walthers car is a 4140F (very similar, but the small windows by the door at the aisle end of the car are closer in shape to the model, but not quite correct placement) which were built for the Crescent and various connecting roads/trains, and were owned by Southern, L&N and PRR (which also had the 4140B).  But I thought the Walthers car is actually a 4140 (the original) with some fluting added, but while the small windows are right on, the model has 3 aisle windows while the PRR diagrams show 2 (or is the diagram really a 4129?)-

So I am now left unsure if there is an exact prototype for either Walthers version.  But I am happy with it- at 3 feet, those little window variations don't bother me.  And in any case, for the time being, my Wathers fluted cars are standing in for L&N and ACL 4-5-1-4 cars on the Dixieland circa 1956.

Also note that some of these (fluted 10-6 4140-?) ended up on CN.

What Pennsy trains ran this  sleeper?

Depending on your era, the relevant ACL/RF&P/PRR trains included:
1) West Coast Champion (New York-Tampa/St. Petersburg)
2) East Coast Champion (New York-Miami)
3) Everglades (New York–Jacksonville)
4) Florida Special (New York–Miami/St. Petersburg)
5) Vacationer (New York–Miami)

When these 10-6 sleepers (Is the Walthers sleeper a NYC prototype?) went into Amtrak,

which car numbers were assigned to them?

Dee, you're no help.

Hmm... I'm guessing whole
numbers...

The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

The Walthers 10-6 sleeper is not an NYC prototype, but the Walthers coach is.
Regarding Amtrak numbers - see Jerry LaBoda's site http://n-scalevarnish.info/index/varnish/UsersGuide/AMTK3.htm :
Here's what I found listed there:

2797
2810
2811
2814 - 2817
2850 - 2867

George,

thank you. Didn't know that. I've bought the coaches, too. Do you know which numbers Amtrak used on the coach?

They are on this page of Jerry's site: http://n-scalevarnish.info/index/varnish/UsersGuide/AMTK5.htm
it says:  6400 - 6421, 6423 - 6425, 6428, 6429, 6431, 6433 - 6449

I can't emphasize enough what a service Jerry has provided for N-scale passenger modelers.

OK, it looks like I might just keep it as a Pennsy car and decal it one of the cars Walthers has listed. But before I do this I would like to try and get the right name of a car that may have had the greatest chance of this. The names listed are as follows, DELAWARE RIVER, MIDDLE RIVER, BIRCH RIVER, PATAPSCO RIVER, SCHUYLKILL RIVER, SUSQUEHANNA RIVER, and RARITAN RIVER.

Out of all the names listed the only car I could find photo's of was BIRCH RIVER. Anyone have any links too other photo's on the net?

Thanks, Jon
