Here's an Intermountain hopper I finished up recently. Patched as ATSF 317598 Ex-Koppel hopper.
Weathered with the cheap craft paint, oil chasers and powders with DC in between. 36" FVM metal wheels added.

Great job on this!  A couple of quick questions if I may:

 - Did you use an airbrush fade?

 - Is this a proto or freelance?   Do you have any links to proto pics?

 - Terminology:  "chasers" == "washes" I presume?

The roof walk and rusty bands on the hatches are stunning...
the only critique I could muster would be to give a slight variation in color to set apart each hatch section.
rather then it looking like one long hatch.

excellent job :)

Thanks for the comments fellas.  I appreciate it!

Ed- I like airbrush fade on the cylindrical cars. Diluted mixes of cheap craft paints thinly applied.

This is a prototype car. Santa Fe bought 150 or so from Koppel.
and yes  Oil chasers is my goofy term for an oil wash.

Otto- thanks for the kind words

Missaberoad- good critique on the hatches and I tend to see what you mean.

Sirenwerks-thanks!

Mr. Jeff Kluke- thanks for the comment and yes the SOO line is a modeling mania for me. Fox Valley cars.

Blazeman-thanks although I'm not sure of the reference...Confalone?

Jmarley76- thanks and glad you like the roof hatch attack

He's got the touch.
There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

Blazeman-thanks although I'm not sure of the reference...Confalone?

Mike Confalone is doing a series of video segments on TMTV (video arm of M-R-H) on weathering modern day cars and uses oils to a large extent, both direct and with an oil wash. If you Google his Allagash you can watch some videos of his layout and study how he's weathered cars...especially covered hoppers.
