My youngest son purchased a Kato F40PH in the Metrolink scheme. The TCS decoder arrived earlier this week and after daily requests "Dad, did you install the decoder yet in my Metrolink?!", I finally went to work on it last night. Since I had it open and it has ditch lights and a red light, I decided to use some small TCS LEDs to light them up independently. This morning before he left for school, my son ran to the layout room like it was Christmas morning and played with it for 10 minutes. That's a good way to start your Friday if you're a 9 year old!
BTW, this was the first time I have installed function lighting. Up to now, I had installed decoders. Now I am looking at the lights of all my other units and they need upgrading!

Glad to see another convert to the crazed-LED-converts sect!  Nice!  :)

When I finish any of my LED installs I still feel like a 9-year-old on Christmas!  And I'm over 50!

Except that it's going to be the longest Friday at school for him, just dying to get back home and play with that F40PH again.   :D

I feel like a 9-year old on Christmas any time trains are involved, from 1:1 to 1:160  :D

lol..yes...a couple of these guys are the guys we always see at shows...one or two nice engines,(and lots of 30-40 year old stuff) with anything and everything trailing...
even today, I'm appalled that they still need a 'transition car' to pull most of their rolling stock!

with the incredibly GORGEOUS weather we've been experiencing down here in Coastal Alabama, module and scenery work has now moved to the 'fair weather' hobby room (aka, the garage).
I'm finally adding scenery to one of the very first SWARMTrak modules, one of the original 180 degree end caps. The other original end cap quickly became the Triple D Farm and Ranch, but this one always seemed to take a back seat as other modules were built and sceniced.
I'm taking the opportunity to do it now, as I have a few more modules in the queue that will also receive the same type of desert scenery, so I can do all of them together.
This one is getting several layers of 1" foam (sic), rummaged from scraps, to build up the general forms that will become eroded mesa formations. At this point, I've got the general shapes in, but I'll add1-2 more layers to what is seen here. General shaping of the slopes and cuts will follow, using a rasp and foam knife, followed by capping with the eroded rock formations. I'll blend those in with a little sculptamold (I want them to appear to be formations that have been left protruding out of the eroded slope of sandstone, etc...)

I'm trying to present the scenery in such a way as to create  a view block to attempt to hide the ridiculously  small radius that is become the T-Trak standard for these end caps and corners.

I took some time this morning to prime some undecorated freight cars for painting.  3 MT tank cars for PROCOR, 1 black and 2 white, 2 MT 4650's which will be decorated for FMLX (Curious George car), and 5 MT/Intermountain 2 bay centerflows, probably going to be CSX since I have a good bit of decals for those.

Did you take any in process photos?

Did you replace the lenses with LEDs or rather use the LED to illuminate the lens?  What size ?  SMD ?

thanks.....

I put a first layer of water down on the layouts "river"

And painted up a few line poles. Made by splicing 2 Atlas poles together.

...oh yes, I forgot...... someone dropped by for my birthday and wanted to say hi to her favourite a@@hats.......

Model railroading isn't saving my life, but it's providing me moments of joy not normally associated with my current situation..... Train are good!

Today was my club's spring trainshow. The only pictures I took were of my own Z scale show layout.  :D

Utz can get cooking oil delivered now.  Here is Procor #75006, in between two MT decorated models, which is in a series that I found is used for vegetable oil most of the time. Still have some decals to finish and shot of dull coat.  Wish Microscale would have an enlargement of the decal sheet so you know what you're cutting, especially in white.

I got my BLMA tankers in and I've enjoyed running them so far, wish I would've gotten more than I did.

I also did some work on CR 3812 and finished up 5987.
