New Shapeways material

The far end steps look a bit out of whack . It was mentioned this is a bit bendy . Wonder if it is air bubbly on the inside . Maybe they need to add more support thingys to stop that from doing the twist . Other than that it looks smooth , true , and better than anything I've seen from Shapeways , and I have bought about 50 items so far , and stuff is on the way .

I got a chance to take a better look and it's not so much warped as it bows out a little which isn't totally surprising given the incomplete drawing I tested.  I wish I had a little bigger sample to get a better idea of how many support structure are needed to make these shapes.

Oh , I should have said the passenger car that Chris posted a link to .

And on your tank car , will that be the 1955 19K tank . If so UP had some and that would mean I want it . Let me know when it is orderable please .

I'd be curious how they compare to the drawings.  One thing that stands out in all of those shots is there aren't a lot of sharp crisp edges.  Everything has a softness to it which would go along with why the material has a smoother finish.

After a second print of my roof, I have decided this material will have no place in my shop.

They reprinted, and tried their best to hide the fact that they messed up the end of the roof again. There is a bunch of sanding and the contour on the very edge is not symmetrical.  The part has enough twist to prevent it from sitting properly on the B74. The original was better.

I'm bringing this back from the dead as Shapeways is asking some designers about ordering the High Def Acrylic without the supports removed.  So check your email and see if they reached out to you and fill out the survey.

The guy who I earlier linked his HOn30 stuff. He started offering HDA through his website since only designers can order it. Well he placed a big Shapeways order for is customers and when it showed up he said it all got sent back to re-print. Said everything was warped. 

The OTHER bad news is that the B-HDA parts I ordered from Shapeways for customers must have been printed by Stevie Wonder, because there is no way they are up to the quality standard that I demand. Nasty emails have been sent, and replacement parts will come, but it adds to delivery times, which is aggravating.

Shape ways sent me an email asking me to try the material again and I said no way.  I'm having enough problems right know just trying to get the to print FUD dimensionally accurate.

SO, the time has come for me to decide between FXD and this black stuff for a Rapidpro Valiant.
Thoughts? @bbussey since you have experience with these cars and the materials, would you recommend FXD?

Something small like an N scale auto might end up OK.

Or auto and truck scrap tires in a few variations for junk yards and gondolas loads .

FXD.  Not happy with the black stuff.

Is it just a quality control issue with the black stuff?  Because that little steam loco looks pretty good.

Hello,

We've been testing the Black HDA too. Unfortunately the printing results so far not good enough. Actually the nice plastic look was only appearent in 1 print. Two other prints showed rippled surfaces. The main concerns are severe warpages, print inconsitencies and damages caused by removal of support wires. For the moment RAILNSCALE will not offer designs in the new black material. FUD and FXD are still the best options for small detailed kits.
