Tonight my caboose received permanently mounted trucks handrails and safety screens.

Well I finally got around to applying paint. White first on the handrails, and other grabs etc, then masked and painted blue with a custom mixture of Model Master Acryl Blue Angel Blue, Guards Red and White.

Nice job on the handrails Craig!  And for some unknown reason they remind me of this.  :)

Masking the white stripes must have been a pain.

Thanks everyone. Yes the stripes are a huge pain to mask. I'm not looking forward to the yellow locos. They have yellow handrails with black stripes like a candy cane and very close together.

KCS did this on their locos at one point. Might want to look over the various Microscale decal sets and see if they have stripes that would help.

Is that Kansas City Southern? I sure will check it out! Thanks.

My idea was to paint the handrails black and then support them between two attachment points of some kind. With them pulled straight I could wrap dental floss or string around them as a mask and then shoot the yellow. But I see lots of potenial hang-ups there.

Strictly from the coverage angle, it would make sense to paint the yellow first. It will be tough for the yellow to cover black. You might have to paint white first (to give it a bright undercoat) then paint yellow.

I know and normally that's exactly what I would do. The trouble is its a thin black stripe. Ive looked at it again and I was wrong, it's not a candy cane type stripe. It's just a huge number of small stripes. Same style as on the blue caboose only sooooooo many more of them.

Check out the link.

Tonight she got a freelanced set of brake rigging. The only picture of the brakes I could find showed the location of the tank, so I searched on line and found some random caboose braking system pics and went with that. I think it works. It's accurate until someone can prove its not, haha!

It fits the part and will disappear when it's all painted black.

Brake parts are from Precision Scale.

Terrible cel phone pics but there's been some progress. All that's left is the little safety diamonds. I didn't have those on hand.

Only that the brakes are applied, so the car cant move...  :D

In all seriousness, great job building a unique prototype!
Because why not...
