Just Bought My First Loco in Over 10 Years

I just won an Atlas GP7 phase 1 (undecorated) on eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/121885171891?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I have a little Unitrack (4 ea 9-3/4" pieces, LOL) to put it on, but no power supply to run it. I'm looking for some used Unitrack now... maybe in a month or so, I'll have a small layout up and running, cat be darned.

Hmm... and so the torrent
of buying begins...

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.
"It works! It works!"

Good on ya.

Will you be painting the Geep in a specific road name?

You can't go wrong with Unitrack for a temporary set-up....

Excellent. Congratulations.

With that loco you could do an N scale version of the latest MRR project layout. the Winston-Salem Southbound. (http://mrv.trains.com/layouts/project-railroads) In fact, Cody Grivno is currently repainting a GP-9 for the WSS. All be it in HO.

Probably the Kisatchie, Gulf & Northern. It'll be painted BN green, with a black cab. I've yet to design a logo for the engines, but maybe I'll have a design a logo contest here to put on the sides.

Hmm... that's gonna cost
ya big bucks for a prize...

Nice to see that you make that giant step for Kiz.
Will the logo have an image of Ms. Dee Rail in it?  :D

For now a 9-v battery could do.  Just to get things moving.

From the pic on the Ebay listing, that's a pre-DCC ready version.  You will need a TCS CN-GP decoder when (if) you want to go to DCC.  Slightly more complicated than a drop in, but not too bad.  A regular wired type decoder can also be used. It's just a little more work.

Don't listen to Dee. She's been hitting the banana daiquiris pretty heavy.

Hmm... no. Kiz hates me.
He rarely gives me bananas
in good condition, and he
wants to tear down my
treehouse. I could go on,
but why bother...?

:)  How that dude ended up with a super model.... :?

Never argue with idiots; they'll drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

Hmmm... Dee seems to be an inseparable part of your presence Kiz: your sidekick, the comical counterpoint - your other personality.  If not in the RR logo, there at least needs to be be a large Dee billboard on your future layout.

That choice of green hit me with a collective memory link.

You could sure do a lot worse than a freelance version leaning on the Ashley, Drew & Northern for inspiration.

http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=120009&nseq=8

I can certainly see that.   One thing I will suggest - and noticed in that shot - is the use of colored lettering on a white background.   Sure makes it a lot easier to do custom decals if you don't need white ink.

I'm thinkin' Dee dressed up like "Cahoots" on the nose of FW&W CF7 2473 would be quite appropriate.   Best railroad mascot logo, shame its gone.  Right up there with Susie Q.

Google 'Orangutan logo' and there's all kinds of inspiration.

Very doable concept here....    I didn't realize how many rail lines still go through that part of the state north of Alexandria.

I like the billboard idea. Thanks.

Now that Mardi Gras is past (Tuesday), maybe Dee will lay off the sauce.

Hmm... forget what I said
about Kiz. I was just mad
that he wouldn't put in a
hot tub in my treehouse...

Well done Kiz. Just shows what a community, albeit one that cannot be seen in person can do to help.
