Here's car 56.  We were in the next car which was an ex-atsf car.

Ew.  What's with the equipment on the roof?  Not only does it look terrible, but it somewhat defeats the purpose of the domed roof for visibility.

I think it's AC.  The atsf cars have it too but a different style.  I don't believe it obstructs any views.

Yeah, it's A/C. Ugly as $#!+. But Bubba and John-Boy were proud of how much money they saved the company.  :RUEffinKiddingMe:

Aside from maybe being a bit too cool at times there is no obstruction of the view from any angle.  The units are narrower than the center roof piece.

If they're like the GN cars, they were built with AC, but in very hot weather it can't keep up with the sunlight through the big dome.  These were built for a northern railroad, where the weather is usually a little cooler, and the Sun lower in the sky, than on the Santa Fe or other more southerly roads.

It's also possible that the original AC was getting old, and expensive to repair, and it was cheaper to use an off-the-shelf rooftop unit than to replace the built-in ones.

I have the NS "Delaware" reserved from Lowell Smith and I asked the other day about the cars and I was told IM has no update on them.

Intermountain has them listed as "Queued for Production" - when that will be is anyone's guess.

I'm pretty sure they had pilot models in Springfield. They included etched stairs to the dome and were very well done.

Excited to hear these are now "Queued for Production". I've been waiting almost 3 years for these!

When I looked at the link that was provided earlier, I see some items are "Queued for Production" and some are "Confirmed for Production".

Does anyone have an idea on what the difference is between "Queued" and "Confirmed". Which one happens first?

Thanks,
Bart

"Confirmed for Production" means that the pre-orders are in and they have enough pre orders to make it into production.

I think "Queued for Production" means that they are the next in line to be made.  After that they will be "In Production".

That should be it or at least a close enough meaning.

Well, good news! Only 3 more years till they come out (confirmed)! However by then I'm sure KATO will have released the Oly Hi (w/ Superdome) in Milwaukee Road with UP colors. And the CCC ones will straggle in later....

Queued for Production simply means it has been scheduled, not necessarily next.

Thanks for the correction.  :)
