Bachmann fluted passenger cars? anybody see these?

so train world has some fluted 85' passenger cars listed and they sure look Santa fe-ish from the drawings! Does anybody have any info on these? Here's the link!
http://www.trainworld.com/manufacturers/bachmann/bachmann-n-scale/bachmann-passenger-cars-1/bachmann-14751-santa-fe-85-streamline-fluted-lighted-coach/
Looks like they have a baggage, coach, and observation listed so far. I'm kind of excited to see samples. Maybe I'll be able to model my 1947 grand canyon in plastic instead of brass!

The coach is based on the same Santa Fe prototype as the Concor model... the observation car is a complete fabrication, based on nothing at all.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully they come out with more Santa fe prototype cars! Are they planning on more car styles and whose design did they use for the baggage?

Not sure about this, but the baggage car looks like a SF car that has been stretched to 85'.  If so, it might make a good companion for the 70' Con cor RPO car.  I will check when I get home, ATSF did have one (or 2?) baggage cars that were longer than their standard, but I don't think any that were 85'.  I will cede to Jerry on this if he knows the prototype.

It looks shorter from the drawings so hopefully they're advertising in the same way concor did as 85' budd cars but the baggage it's the proper length and dimensionally accurate for a Santa fe early corrugated 2 door baggage. Maybe these Santa fe cars are a precursor for then retooling the atsf northern they haven't changed cosmetically since we'll before I was born! Actually I would rather have them release a 63" drivered 2-10-2!

Would be nice if someone made an ATSF "Santa Fe."  I'd also like to see an accurate ATSF 4-6-4.  From what I understand and recollect, other than for a couple major expositions, the 4-8-4s never made it east of Kansas City due to weight limits (or clearances??) on a bridge in Illinois.  The basement-filling layout planned for my retirement (that begins in February, I pre-date that Bachmann Northern by a couple decades) will focus on Dearborn station, so I need medium sized steam for ATSF (or none, if I stick with my current 1956, chosen mostly so I can run my Kato El Cap, and use my mid 50s MiniMetals on the streets), although if someone wants to market a GTW 4-8-4, I'm good for one or two if I can afford them.

I didn't even know that Bachmann announced these new models.  Were there any ads for them in the magazines?

Thomas, @Cajonpassfan(otto)  is working on a big Hudson 4-6-4 and I will be too once I get some drivers.
I agree on the Santa fe types being needed. Pecos River Brass made a nice 3450 class Santa fe 4-6-4 that show up every once in a while.
I think I'm good on 4-8-4s not worth brass, resin shells and Bachmann shells on gs4 mechanisms.

Pete, trainworld has them listed and they're in the 2015 Bachmann catalogue.

I knew about Trainworld (from this thread), but I guess I missed the 2015 catalog (and 2015 is almost over).

I don't believe they are in the 2015 catalog but rather the 2015 NMRA announcements.

Jason's right it was the nmra brochure. I'm hoping they're comparable the katos or cc budd cars.

Yes,
Old news...in fact, there was a short discussion somewhere on his forum...
Of course, what's the point?
Even if they're decent, even if they're good...they won't be good enough...AND we'll hear, ad nauseum,  about how they're not up to some people's standards.

Yeah, that's what I take from it. The "85'" is likely a typo.

True, but if we were all honest, we would admit that we still get out our Bachmann big dome and run it around the track when no one else is around.  Add the baggage car and the Budd coaches, and a diner (or LCD) and you end up with a 1954 El Cap.  If they want to redo the tooling on the big dome and give it an ATSF sized letterboard, I might be in for a couple or three.

Frankly, if these cars have reasonably accurate roof and ends, and can serve as cores for M&R sides, and decent street price, I will buy a bunch.  Or, even better, if accurate and reasonably scaled I will buy several and run them as is (ok, probably a change of couplers and wheels).

You all are right, looking at the drawings, the baggage looks to have the correct proportions.  Will be interesting to see what they really look like when production photos come out.  If the Trainworld ad is correct, and these are due at the end of March, we will find out soon enough.
