John, I use NCE Switch-it and Switch-8's, and yes for staging yards especially, it's the cat's meow. A Switch-it handles two turnouts, the "8" eight. There's a new "improved" Mark2 version out now, which is a bit more expensive, but I've never had any issues with the originals; still buying those while I can.
I don't know what DCC system you use, mine's NCE and it has the "Macro" function built in. I don't know about other systems' ability to issue multiple instructions at a push of one button.
