When are you going to lower that thing!  With all that coal it would tip over!!  Take you B&W tones from sepia into greyscale and it will match the proto photo better!

@Lemosteam is right: that car needs to be lowered.

I almost hate to bring it up, but it is possible  - possible ! - that the "dark" areas could benefit from the addition of two colors.  Look at the platform in the prototype photo to see the lighter color around the edge and a darker in the middle.

I didn't realize ride height was such a large part of the weathering process!
I'll see what I can do.
As for the rust additions, maybe dry brush on a halo of rust?

Just consider me exempt too as I don't have the necessary tools for the hopper I wanted to do so ill show a car I have been tinkering with instead, cause I'm jealous lol. This car has a prototype, but I didn't follow it, but I can say I used inks and chalk dust, and obviously dullcote.... The car I wanted to do was a 4750 that had real sweet graf, but my printer isn't talking to my Win8.1 laptop so there's that...

My entry:

Once again, the proto photo can be found on this page:

In addition to the weathering, I added brake hoses, uncoupling levers, and Full Throttle Z couplers.  Otherwise stock FVM car.

That's pretty hot @Iain. You are on the cusp of greatness with that car. I would refine those rust patches a but more. I struggled with this part too on my hopper.

As for the cement...you need some streaks instead of large globs. Take a closer gander:

I bet maybe a rusty over spray to tone it down a bit and then take a alcohol damp flat brush and drag it down for streaks.
I think your trucks look great! What did you do to them?

In other news, I bowed to peer pressure and lowered my car. I'll soon touch up my Cody Fisher CoffeeStains(TM) with a lighter rust halo around the edges. Since I replaced couplers with 2004s, I'll have to weather them, too.

That car looks great Josh.  How did you lower it?  Thanks.

Also don't forget to blacken those trip pins.

It was all @bbussey who taught me.
I used underslung couplers (MTL 2004). He advised me to install the box upside down (lid side up when upright). I used the Bowser trucks so I had to file the bolster down smooth on the car. He also said to use flat head screws and ream out the coupler box hole to countersink so the screw would sit flush and not bump the axle. I didn't have any so I was able to just file down the screw.

I may actually clip the trip pins. I don't think I'll ever use magnets.

How many people are going to enter who haven't? Would it help to have the weekend?

I was going to enter but it would take more than a weekend.  I took the car out of the box and I printed the decals (I did the artwork a while back).    But I keep getting distracted by other things (like the Arnold SW1 review).  But this is pretty typical for me.  I have way too many projects on my workbench. But when and if I ever finish this car I will post some photos here.  :)
