New Box Car Tooling from Intermountain.

Somewhat lost in the last announcement of SD40-2 paint schemes was new tooling for the 1937 AAR box car, notably two new ends and one new door.

The Canadian cars would feature the NSC-2 end which should look like this:

And a Deco ends for the C&O cars like this:

This car would also have new doors.

I use the words 'would' and 'should' because none of the tooling has been cut yet, and it's entirely up to getting enough pre-orders to get these done.

I'm hoping putting a little spot light on them will help get these made.

Ooh!  :o  The "Deco" ends are too cool - I never thought I'd see those in N-scale.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

  Jason,
there should be at least 3 more main versions of the NSC Ends.
the one pictured may be the "Waffle"version ?
while C&O had the Deco End,Erie had the "Buckeye End",Interesting cars.
{ does the B&O car have "Lionel Ends"?, they seemed to like that end for a
  spell in the mid 40s.}
Edit - they are just using the C&O Deco End ?
          that isn't exactly a B&O Signature End.
Ok-- the IMRC Page has finally come in.

IMR lists them as NSC-2 which is what I think I linked to.

 :?
there were only 100 cars built with Deco Ends, did C&O shift all of them over
  to B&O ?
would think by 1964 the full series would be missing some wrecked cars and
some shifted over to MOW/Company Service.
where is Mr B&O when needed?

 :o
due to the long ,never ending winters,NSC would rework the ends from time to time
to cut down on the boredom such weather engenders.
IMRC is just scratching the surface here with NSC-2 ends.
Stafford Swain had a number of Articles on these lovely pieces of Stamped Steel over
  the years.
then most versions were cast in Resin for the HO Market in the mid 90s.
so IMRC can get a bit of mileage out of different NCS Ends if they want to.
the similar Despatch Ends used by MDT on many different NYC cars are another possibility.
but they were more common on 50' cars and 40' ice reefers.
Edit -- consider that Eastern Car Co also used NSC Ends on some orders of cars from
time to time, maybe an Availability Issue ?

Woo Hoo... Louisiana & North West boxcars! Gotta reserve them first thing tomorrow.

Hmm... what's Kiz gonna
do with 80 or 90 more
boxcars...?

Two scientists create a teleportation ray, and they try it out on a cricket. They put the cricket on one of the two teleportation pads in the room, and they turn the ray on.
The cricket jumps across the room onto the other pad.

Did IMRC make a Viking roof before this?

Sort of  :P.  I believe it's the Des Plaines Hobbies roof.  IM has previously announced using this roof but it was on the War Emergency box cars that were announced several years ago and haven't arrived yet.

Well, according to the illustrations, we'll be getting them finally on the C&O and B&O cars too.  IMRC could use them on C&EI, Erie, NKP, and other versions of teh car too.

I presume you're insinuating the potential (inevitability?) of cancellation.  I somehow doubt even IMRC is goofy enough to go to the effort of including Murphy roofs on the two cars in the drawing without intent of adding them to the model.  It would have just left the same roofs as the other cars then...

It's Intermountain, so I hope you plan to reserve a couple hundred of em, otherwise, they'll probably never even make it off the drawing board.
