Here is a little preview of something I'm working on.  Not as impressive as the guy's sculpture on a human hair, but I'm still impressed that these license plates turned out fairly decently:

Cool!  The plates seem to be quite detailed - too bad the camera focused on the penny.

Come on you miserable fat-head, get that fat-a$$ truck outta my way!
I also just learned that the main character is named David Mann.
The pieces are falling in to place, Tom!

No, I said "Ed's Law."

Well then, they look good considering the size. :)

What is the true printing resolution of the printer you're using?  600, 1200, 2400 or higher dpi?

This is a dye sub printer that is 300x300.  The resolution isn't as good as an ink jet, but the colors are blended in a more uniform way.

Ah, that explains it.  My Alps (at 600x600 thermal transfer printing) can print very sharp images.  But I have to do tricks to get a decent range of solid (not halftoned) colors.

Tom, what type of paper are you printing this on?

Canon photo paper. In this case, you don't need to make decals!

Yeah that's what I did on my Polar express for the drumhead, and on my Pennsy shark for the numberpoards.  It is easy to  shave off the backing paper leaving just the "film" layer behind.  A drop of Glosscoat will seal it in after gluing it on:

I use max resolution with max quality on my cheapie HP inkjet...

Here is a first cut.  More detail weathering is needed (and I got to get rid of the fuzz  ).  Can I get some thoughts on the double rail bumper, as I'm not the man of the house?  The problem is is that code 40 is so big that it looks a little clunky.  A single rail bumper my look better (but be incorrect compared with the movie).

That truck is gorgeous, Tom!

Only comment I'd make is:  The only thing the driver is going to see in those mirrors is the woods.  They need to be angled in for him to see behind him...

Now, I'll shut up until I can do as good a job.

Wow!  :tommann: :tommann: :tommann:

Breathtaking!

But I think bumper is too big. It's cool it's made from rail, but I think the truck is more I-beam than train rail.
I don't have a better suggestion on how to do it, though other than using flat styrene and forgo the I beam shape for correct size.
