Bluford Cornfields, anyone get some yet?

I see the the Bluford cornfields are out.  I'm planning on getting some with my next order to MBK but I don't know when that will be.  Anyone get this yet?  What do you think?

They sold out in a short time, wasn't able to buy. Look like just doing one small corner of my layout will cost about $80  :scared:

Ouch, yeah what is it, $25 retail for less than a 4"x 5" area?

Looking too symmetrical to me . If they had 3 types to mix it up a bit that would be nice . I guess some could be planted shorter than others .

$20 street for 1,120 stalks, versus the Alkem's at $15 for 220. (or $30 for 660)   Guess it's progress.

To get rid of the uniformity, since it comes in strips of 20 plants, you just cut and rearrange some strips, chopping off the interlocking pin in each strip also. I like the idea of adding tassels as shown in the earlier thread.

Too bad I missed this run but I'll throw out my thought of making crop circles. Will BNSF try to sue aliens for doing a BN logo?

I would consider buying the fall crop and then airbrushing shades of green  over the tan base color. The green ones are way to uniform to look realistic.

I figure about 12 of them to the acre, or $300 retail.  If you model the 50's or 60's, you are paying about the price (at the time) of an acre of 1:1 scale cornfield.

As is, you can get a block of multi-story buildings for your downtown for $300, and when you figure for streets and alleys, cover the same real estate.

6 of one, half a dozen of the other...
I don't feel the price is out of line for what is provided...I'm imagining it would be quite easy to twist various stalks and bend leaves to provide individuality...I will definitely airbrush the ones I plant.
again, as the title of the thread asks, I'd love to hear from someone who has acquired some already

Only way I could come up with corn I was happy with was to use photos.

I agree.  Convincing foreground corn fields are difficult at best.  Your photo backdrop is very effective and an approach I'll need if my basement AC&Y ever expands.  Are the backdrops your work or commercial products?

I'm pretty excited about the stuff. Been laying out the corn fields outside of Franksville which have been barren since Bluford's original announcement. This will be much faster than the previous broom corn method.

We've been discussing road layout options internally, so once Robert's Rd is in place I can start planting.

There are a bunch of different stalks all randomly arranged and mirrored among four different rows per sprue. The variation is there, but like a real cornfield it all blends together into uniform rows.
