Since there were two threads here already on the subject of FXD, I thought it would be a good idea to start a new one with the response I got from Shapeways about the glossy, clear finish on those little spacemen in their FXD promo.

Here is the entire response:

I received feedback about your question; because less support material is used the model looks this clear and glossy. That's it!

Maybe they didn't even wash off the oily substance which seems to be on the printed objects (which makes them look wet)?

I would have thought that as well Pete, but the last several FUD items I have received from Shapeways have been free of the oily residue. I think they have improved their clean up techniques.
