Done a lot of thinking about this. I have a UP Greyhound first run, with the New Tsunami decoder installed by Athearn, Thinking of selling it to fund one of these. I MUST have one.

I bought it with a fried decoder for a deal, so anything over what I paid + Athearn Maintenance fee, is Profit for me.

So, here's the question for those that are going to Pre-order, who are you going though?

Hmmm...do I want one...and if I do....guess I gotta get a whole train for it too. However a Laser Kits NP caboose would look real good behind it...hmmm to preorder or not...

I made up my mind last night. the Athearn 4-6-6-4 mech is a good one, and rather than hacking up the UP greyhound I have now, I'm going to sell it, and use that money to partially fund a NP version. I'm watching E-bay trends of non-greyhound versions right now to try to get a price point. I plan on offering it up here for a discount first though.

So anyone want a UP Greyhound First run challenger, with the factory Tsunami update. Let me know. lol

Mike, does it have the deep flanges on the tender and pilot/trailing trucks? If not, I may be interested....

It's a first run, and I believe it's a stock first run. I'll get it back out of the box tomorrow.....well this afternoon now......and check for sure. Not sure on a price yet though, waiting for a few auctions to end to be able to calculate how much I want to ask.

I have not had a chance to get the challenger out and look at the flanges yet, between work, packing to move, and working on paperwork for the new house, I have not had much in the way of time. I do know that it ran find on almost all code 55 track work, but I have not had a chance to actually measure the flanges....

Mike, I know you're busy, no prob.
I have some Code 40 sidings so I'm only interested in the later version, or the original one with Athearn replacement wheels (which are no longer available).

So, I HAD the greyhound challenger sold, so I went ahead and preordered one of the NP versions....

Next time, if I decide to sell, I'll officially offer it up here, NYS, and craigslist, Then last resort, I'll go back to Ebay....

I'd love to see more big steam in N. Hope this NP challenger is just the start. Proportionately our curves are wider on average than largers scales and most layouts should be able to take articulateds. H8, A class, R2, L-105 bring them all on.
