Does the center truck turn or is it just the outer ones? I think it shouldn't as that will help guide the engine in a straight line while the pivoting trucks guide them around corners.

the center truck is turning with the direction of the torque of the motor. I'm wondering if, once I get the frame made out of brass, and get some of the slack taken out of it, It may not have a problem. Even now it's a minor shift.

You could have a look at the kato 11-103 motor.  Worms at both ends.  I was able to get this to be very effective and smooth:

I can measure the center distance between the worms if you like.  It would likely be fairly easy to solder a drve cup on the end of one worm for the third truck...

Just a thought.

the truck turns from the torque of the motor

as in the truck tries to turn right when you are pulling a load?

you are sure your telescope isn't trying to open up?

MarkD, Lashup, that scenery really is top notch!

How bad was the snow here a few weeks ago? This was being used in my neighborhood:

So what did I do besides shovel? Got to work on a few Showcase kits:

Lashedup:  "there's really not much left of the original bridge besides the outer framework"

Sounds like my Loudwater River bridge, made from AHM HO trusses.  Nothing original except the trusses, with a lot of other stuff between them.

How about an article on how you built yours?

Nate built the bridge itself.  I know he has some photos of the build.

I do have photos of the build, but I can't figure out how to post photos to railwire.  Sorry.

Interesting.  I don't remember ever seeing a model of a double-deck bridge before, although they weren't too uncommon.

Portland Oregon has a double-deck lift bridge even today.  Lower level is UPRR and bicycles, upper level is automobiles and light rail.

.

The upper and lower decks move independently - the lower level can be lifted (a little) without disturbing the upper deck.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Isn't that grain elevator on the right the one with the super-crazy sharp curve?

I got yelled at trying to take pictures out the window of our sleeper (our attendant was a bit of a tight a$$).   :(

For those that don't know, Portland Union is just beyond the other side of the bridge.

Mike:  I think so.  It looks like part of the curve under the right approach to the bridge, although Google Maps says that's the approach track to the bridge.  It appears that the elevator track has been removed, but the curved trestle is still there, no piled with "stuff".  Look for "Steel Bridge, Portland, OR" and it's easy to see the elevator, then zoom in on it.

Jason:  Why would a sleeping car attendant care what you took pictures of outside the car?  Better than taking pictures of the inside, which might get him/her in trouble!  Maybe they should be reported to Amtrak as "not customer friendly".
