I could really use a set of pre-DOT qualification/spreadsheet era UTLX black tank cars. Nothing fancy, but they were everywhere.

I can send you photos.

There's a shyness found in reason
Apprehensive influence swallow away
You seem to feel abysmal take it
Then you're careful grace for sure
Kinda like the way you're breathing
Kinda like the way you keep looking away

This marks request number 428,973 for same.

Which means, fughetaboutid...never gonna happen.  And anyways, Micro-Trains gets all twitchy when there are no logos on something.

We could probably get a run done if we pitched in...

Doug,

That just might be the best way to get it done.  Micro-Trains even has instructions posted on their website:   http://www.micro-trains.com/sr-Program%20Info.php

Microscale used to make tank car decals that should work for these.  The set's been around long enough that it should be perfect for 1970s and early 80s cars, and the painting would be easy.

The scheme never has been done on any of the Athearn or Atlas models?

Wow. Nice. If we can do this for early '70s, I'd be good for at least an 8-pack.

All in your court, Daniel. :D

Anyone happen to know the prototype for the MTL 56' tank? (What year did it first appear?)

EDIT: some good info from Dave Casdorph on this car here:

http://www.trainlife.com/magazines/pages/628/43831/march-2002-page-17

"30,110 gallon, non-insulated, non-coiled, DOT IIIA100WI tank car (AAR car type code T108)"

Count me in, not all tank cars in th 70's were colorful or had logos. A four, five or eight pack would be nice.

Wow, I just came across the PWRS Special Runs page for Micro-Trains (during a search for Micro-Trains UTLX) and now I know why we aren't getting as much of the cool stuff Micro-Trains has to offer...PWRS is apparently taking over a lot of that production.   Modern tank cars out the wazoo, and the 4427's which have trickled out to the "general public" at best.

Hey, more power to Micro-Trains...just explains some things though.   I just didn't realize the volume of stuff going out like that.

OK, so for a little more information...

I found this article by Dave Casdorph:
http://www.trainlife.com/magazines/pages/628/43831/march-2002-page-17

It pretty well sums everything up. Non-insulated 30,000 gallon tank car, T108.

Daniel, do you have a specific series you're looking at or just random shots of 56-ish foot UTLX cars?

Just for grins, here are the UTLX T108 search results from rrpic...net:
http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/rsList.aspx?aid=T108&id=UTLX

Obviously not all will be a match but there's probably an obvious series or ten that would be a good fit.
