The somewhere in West Michigan Z scale layout thread.

Ok, here I go.The layout measures (at this time) 25.5" wide by 44" long. It concists of a t"x3" framework covered by 1.5" pink extruded Styrofoam.The track is by Rokuhan.The truss bridge is also Rokuhan.The girder bridge is a MTL product.So far the plan is for the road and track to cross at three locations.The one in front the road goes under the track.At the top the road crosses at grade ,to the right it will go uphill and cross the track on a bridge.

The truss bridge crosses over a inlet (got to have a water effect somewhere or it would not be Michigan.There is one siding for a as yet undecided industry.Like all of my layouts it is built in the present day.

A couple pictures.The drawing is not 100% accurate.  :(



I call this shot a concept picture because I wanted to be sure what I wanted would work.So I roughed it in and slapped some paint on it to get a good perspective of the crossing.At this point I am happy with what I have. :D

Well, I have already discovered I need to regrade the slope going under the bridge .Tis a wee bit high yet.On the up hill end the trailer clears the bridge by about the thickness of a sheet of printer paper. :D

Nice start!   I really like highway underpasses...might be the most underrated model railroad feature there is, if done correctly.   Looking forward to more progress!

If I can find my keyhole saw there will be a lot more progress. :D. If not found I will beg ,borrow ,or buy another one. :(

A little more progress.I was hoping to get the roads started this week end but my BLMA road crossing did not come in.  :(

Progress pic.Fashia is done all the way around.I am currently working on the girder bridge and surrounding area.Once the girder bridge area satisfys me I will finish off the hill on the lower lefthand corner with retaining walls and a scratchbuilt road bridge.

Looking good Jonathan.  The pond is a little too symmetrical for my taste but there isn't a lot of room.
