MD:  Thank you.  A neat scene, and an interesting idea.

Hey Ryan!  It's a GP40-2 shell with GP40 grills on a GP38-2 walkway.

That's an interesting combo. I'm assuming that's how your prototype model was built? What's the reporting mark going to be?
You mention "master"...are you planning to cast your final work?

Hello all...
shot a quick video/audio demo-ing the tunes I have loaded in the Memory Card for this modules dedicated MP3 (the sound is coming from beneath the module).
I loaded a repertoire of Billboards top 100 songs of 1957; here I'm manually cycling through the playlist-normally, once the player is activated, the tunes will play, in their entirety, then automatically loop back to the beginning and play continuously. The 4G Memory card can hold many more tunes, but I do want to keep the flavor of a 50's radio station. Currently, there are 20 tunes loaded-I may add up to 20 more.
This is one in a series of T-Trak modules that have ambient sound added-the Farm/Ranch module has ambient Farm/animal sounds, the stretch of rural highway has ambient 'lonely highway' sounds (occasional car and trucks passing).

That "sound track" is just the touch for that Dari King scene.   But you had better add a few more songs and a shuffle feature or any operator standing  near it a show will be completely insane by the end of the session.

(Think 3 months of Christmas music in a retail setting )

Yes, that's correct.  Here's a prototype picture showing both sides.

Chessie System owned about half of all produced units so I'm going to need about 10 of these at least, so yes, I do plan on making castings of it.

Good stuff Aaron. Do you happen to have a link to a roster or other info that I could determine what other railroads bought this particular phase?
There were some C&O and B&O units that were rebuilt for shortlines and it would be great if it matched your version.

Since Saturday I have been painting three more locos for one of my friends Mexican RR. I completed 4 before Christmas and offered to do as many as he needs.
This is one shell in progress ready for FNM decals. [ Guests cannot view attachments ]

Plenty of roads have owned them.  Here's a good start:

http://www.trainweb.org/jaydeet/gp40-2.htm

It's the Ia1 and Ia2 phases.

If only Atlas would make them like they did in HO.  That'd make me pretty ecstatic.

I got this shell a year or so ago when I heard that Mark 4 was no longer producing shells. He still had a 38-2 on hand, and it will soon become an EJ&E unit. I also had an extra frame and fuel tank modified to the shorter fuel tanks the Milwaukee Road had on their 40-2's, and a doner  cab & short hood to complete it. should be ready for paint shop soon.

next up is a Shapeways offering of an F40C unique to the Milwaukee Roads' Chicago Commuter district to Fox Lake and Elgin. It was designed to fit a Kato 40-2 frame. Hope to have it painted and detailed for the Fox Valley NMRA show at Harper College in just over 2 weeks pulling a string of modified Con Cor bilevels over the Modu Trak layout past A-20
Have a Lok Sound on order for it, should be able to fit 2 Donau speakers in the back end. any one put two speakers in anything? is it worth it?

Thanks for the link. When you cast it, let me know. I want to do DRGW 3096 and 3118.

Here's a clip of the DRGW units that are either Ia1 or Ia2:

Qty.  Road         Numbers        Date   Builder's #s   Phase  Notes
12    DRGW        3094-3105     4/72    7360-1 to -12   Ia1
12    DRGW        3116-3127     9/74    74635-1 to -12   Ia2      welded ECAFB
1    DRGW       3128            11/74     74735-1            Ia2      welded ECAFB

Note: Ia2: upper rail on intertial intake grille

I'm pretty thrilled to see one of these shells in use.  I bought several of the SD38-2 shells without dynamic brakes, and one SD38AC shell also without dynamic brakes.  At some point I want to replicate the BC Hydro/SRY fleet of these.  I have the Kato SD40-2s and Kato SD40 to do it - just need to get going on it!

How is the cork glued to the foam?  My guess would be the cork shrunk, and possibly pulled free of the foam somewhere.  Perhaps even leaving the surface of the cork still glued to the foam - cork is not the strongest stuff.

We did the same thing in our helix, glued down the track with builder's adhesive to keep it from shifting. Our building only has 10 degree c. heat in the winter when no one is there. The track expanded right out of the plastic ties (which never moved) LOL
