I finished up this car for a friend.I addedew more layers of light sprays before using some graphite powder.
Got this tip from @mmagliaro 's website a few years ago.

Not wanting to buck my trend of "decent weathering, horrific photography", I present @David K. Smith 's D2 crawler!









Black oil washes, a little burnt sienna, too. Drybrushed browns and silver on the treads as per instructions. Painted seat "flat black." I used powders and matte medium, which is now sold in 2 fl oz containters, for the dirt. I mixed the powder with the MM and made some mud. Didn't use any yellow paint.

In other news, how can I take better pictures with my iPhone?

Josh, really nice job on both models, I especially like the Pennsy car.   What exactly did you do with the graphite?  On the trucks? 


Re. the crawler, wouldn't the exhaust stack be a little more corroded/burned (I may be wrong, prototype photos anyone??  And hey if you have a magnifying glass and steady hands, why not add a rain cap to the end of it

your pics look great on my screen.  I'd say not setting it on th egrate of the patio furniture would help, but this being an all terrain vehicle it can probably cross those holes anyway.

I'm three quarters tempted to set this on my nipple and PM it to you.

I'm impatient and wanted natural light. I'm also lazy. I have the Mann Module in the basement, but that was all the way downstairs and I was only 2 espressos in to the day.

I think you're right. There's a bit too much silver on there. Needs moar rust.

The graphite was smeared on the sides with my fingers.

I think it just needs some dust from an airbrush.

Here's a little K4 action for you cats.

Photos aren't the best, but hey, I was in a hurry! Had to get this in before Star Wars tonight.

I sprayed a powered loco with Vallejo rust underneath. I then hit rust on the side of the tender, cistern, firebox. Then I did an overall spray with some Vallejo Dark Gray. After than, I used some Vallejo Mud on the wheels.  I used 3 drops paint to 7 drops thinner.
Neolubed the smokebox first...I'm hoping that doesn't flake off, but that's a problem for Future Josh to worry about. I used Neolube on all the piping. I may go over it again with more after I'm done airbrushing.

I need to do some soot sprays and spray some Vallejo sand on the trucks.
