Track painting with Neolube

I use NeoLube to paint track, especially around throwbars where I don't want paint:

All the "raw wood" sections are where I masked off when I spraybombed the track.
Then I went back and used NeoLube both for the rails and the ties:

M.C.   ....   that looks really good.  What did you use for "spraybombing" ?

Being too dumb to know any better, I painted all the track on my large layout with Neolube.  After doing so, I took a bright-boy to the top surface of the rails.  I've NEVER had a problem in the five years I been operating the layout.

Well from all that I have read here and what I have seen MC do with his track I think I will be using this to paint my rails. Although I think the key is in being very cautious as to how much and not to be too sloppy in the application of the Neolube.

Looking forward to getting my bottles of Neolube and getting started.

I'm with you on this Bob. I think if we don't get an answer when I get mine I will try this on a piece of rail and see if I can solder to it after it is applied.

I've had to reattach feeder wires to rails that have been NeoLubed.
Works fine.
I always file the area in question anyway, and the NeoLube does scrape off.
After soldering, NeoLube again.

I spraybomb track with Rustoleum Dark Grey Auto Primer (poor-man's "Grimy Black").
And some spritzes of light grey and rust here and there.

After track is ballasted, hard to tell difference between spraybombed & Neolubed areas:



I wouldn't paint ALL my track NeoLube, just the areas around the throwbar.

I also use NeoLube to highlight springs on old trucks, dull clipped trip pins, and color couplers.

If I could have another child, I'd name her/him NeoLube.

Great stuff comes right off with Acetone or nail polish remover.

I've never had any electrical issues, if anything, the challenge is it takes me three coats to get the rail sides covered adequately. Great around turnouts!

Absolutely easy.  You just scrape off a little spot where you want to solder.  It's really no different than
soldering any feeder wire.  You need to clean the spot on the rail where you solder anyway.  Neolube doesn't make it any more difficult.

By the way... just so you know, I do eat my own dog food on this:

This PRR layout was all weathered with Neolube on the track, as is my current one.
