So... I gave my review of Arnold and Rocky Rail containers in another thread...
Now I got some of the Rolland containers in.
And the verdict is: Nearly perfect.
Positive notes:
-Width is spot on and these will fit DI Twinstacks and Kato Maxi I cars.
-The magnet system is awesome. They work with each other, including combining the 20 footers and 40 footers. They are also compatible with my
magnet method. And the 40 footers will work underneath a Kato container. (The magnets are a little to weak to clamp to the top of a Kato where there's only a non-magnetic piece of metal.)
Finally a manufacturer got this right !!!
-There are actually
two different styles of 20' container.
The CTI set are a logo panel container which is
appropriate for the 80's. The others are a non-logo panel style which is good for later decades.
-Printing is good quality, not the best I've ever seen but I have no complaints.
-They come with a little foam spacer that I could use to shim up the Arnold containers which are too short.
Downsides/comments:
-The 40 footers won't fit in Interail/DI Thrall cars, although this is really the fault of the latter being a wee bit small. (Other containers, such as Kato, won't fit either, and those that do fit, such as DI, scale out a little under 40ft.) I think they scale out maybe a few thousands of an inch over 3", which is 40 scale feet. Wish they'd erred on the side of a wee bit small, but I can't be too critical here.
-The 20s are ever so slightly taller than DI 20 footers. Some of you may not even consider it a problem. BTW, note that in the pic of the CTI container above, the are slightly different height 20 foot containers. So I guess there's been some prototype variation over the years, too.
-The lengths are a bit inconsistent between the 20s and 40s, as the 20s are a little less than half the 40s. The good part of this is that, being too small, the 20s will fit fine in Interail/DI cars.
