Twin Cities Zephyr Dome Observation

Skytop Models now has resin castings for the Dome-Observation cars used by the CB&Q on the Twin Cities Zephyr. The two cars were named Silver View and Silver Vista. They were also used for a short time on the Kansas City Zephyr and were later used by Amtrak. Though they look similar to the CZ Dome-obs there are several differences, mainly in that the dome is more toward the vestibule end of the car.

In addition to the casting, you will need to purchase several parts from Kato in order to finish the car. Details are on my website at Skytopmodels.com

Thanks,

Bill Denton

Elsewhere you mentioned doing the Wabash version.  Is that likely, or should I buy this one and modify it myself?

Also, your link mentions using the Kato dome-observation glass, but wouldn't you need a regular dome-coach set for the dome itself - I recall that the CZ dome-observation has a high rear roof, and this car doesn't.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

Greetings,

Glad to see this.  Will there be a Wabash rear roof version coming or will I be buying this one and modifying it?

Thank you again for making this,
Bob L.

Depends how quickly you want the car. I talked to Mike last night. He wants to do the Wabash car but he's starting grad school courses in February....so........I imagine it will get done but I just don't know how soon.

You need both sets. The cz dome-obs set is needed for the glass in the observation round end. The dome-coach set is used for the dome glass and most of the side windows.

Just noticed I didn't list the Budd Dome Glass set on the parts list of my web site. I have made the necessary changes. Sorry if that caused any confusion.

Well crap, now I have to call Kato tomorrow morning and see if they will add the glass to my order. I'd hate to burn another $7 on shipping for another order on one part.

Greetings again,

On Wabash 1601.....I've waited years for it  a little longer won't hurt too much.  Most of the work is done as far as I'm concerned except for the rear roof area and around the wheels.   1601 as it sits now has had its rear roof side makers removed and plated over.  It also has some other modernizations since it was owned by the Wabash.  I have some pictures off ebay and some I took myself if you should want any for reference..

How long do you think it actually will be before your Wabash car comes up for sale.   6 months to a year?

Here's hoping it's sooner,
Bob

Another beautiful model from THE foremost modeler of N scale passenger cars. Great job Bill!

Best wishes, Dave
If you lend someone $20, and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Nate, I received your order. Please read the ordering instructions carefully. It says to submit once and I will contact you and to wait for an email. When you submit the form, at the top of the page (although it is small) it says "sending form" with a progress box. Then when finished it reads "form sent" and a button to continue which takes you back to my web page.  PayPal money request has been sent. Thanks.

Bill, Thanks  I should have looked more closely instead of trying to what I thought was resend several times. Whe I get home from work this evening and can look up my current Pay Pal Password (not engraved in my memory banks) I will send. Thanks again. Nate Goodman (Nato).

I got ahold of Kato this morning and got the missing part added to round out the order of needed parts.  The people are so friendly and helpful!

They sure are. Everything I had to deal with Kato USA, it was a positive experience.  Or at least the interaction with their employees was positive (even if the outcome wasn't).

Skytop:
I hate to rain on your party, but I got a response from Kato saying they are out of the underframe: \Part # 805238 Budd CZ Dome Obs Underframe and interior.  I haven't heard back from them when these will be back in stock.
Regards,
Paul
