We were trying to replicate the 3 tracks here on the south leg of Porters.  We had to curve it obviously due to space constraints, but think we did a good job :D

Gonna include the Freedom Log House?

I don't know what a Freedom Log is, but it does sound funny...

I do have room for some structures in the area so might have to do that one.  It's got a distinctive look to it from streetview

I've been able to work over the last couple of evenings on my reworked Porters Sideling area.  All the track work is done, feeders dropped and hooked into the bus, tracks weathered and tests run.  Managed to do all this with out any damage to myself or my equipment  :D  Here is a short video of a CSX crew pulling a cut of cars into the new extended siding destined for PH Gladfelter in Spring Grove.

So I went ahead and ballasted Porters and into Hanover while I was in the mood.  I planted grass inside the wye and paved Porters Rd.  I will need to find a riding lawnmower to put inside the wye.  Gentleman that lives next to the wye mows the grass for YorkRail for free.

One area of Hanover I did not ballast is area around Schmuck's Lumber and where the old WM Freight House would be.  I have two options that I would be able to pursue.  Option 1).  Set the tracks up for Schmucks to receive centerbeam cars of lumber, with track down in the pavement to allow unloading with forklifts.  Perhaps put a unloading ramp/dock at the other track to unload boxcars.  I don't have room for the freight house in this situation.  But in this version of the layout, I have no where for centerbeams to be dropped off other than the MMID interchange.  Schmucks does not receive delivery by rail.

The second option is to have the tracks parallel to each other and have a smaller version of the freight house and model Schmuck's as it is, with no rail service.

Another area I am working on/fighting with is the paper mill area.  I pulled all the old Atlas switches as I acquired enough Peco switches to replace everything.  While I have track torn up, I am contemplating relaying the track work and building layout to better represent Spring Grove/PH Gladfelter.  If anyone wants to draw up suggestions, feel more than welcome.  Sizes are 18" wide by 8' long, plus the angled area, which is at bottom of photo and you can't see

What benefit will the freight house give you?

I say, go with the slightly stretched truth of the lumber yard.

Or... make it nothing at all! You do model a modern era where lots of things "used to be". It might be a good chance to drive that home.

Well, the freight house is now CSX MOW headquarters for the Hanover Sub.  They get occasional equipment/supplies dropped off, and someone (not sure if it's Schmucks or not) gets a boxcar load of bricks.

In that case, I think the parallel tracks look to be more true to the prototype.

Why can't you do both? Leave the tracks parallel and pave over the middle of the sidings and off the edge of the layout. This way you still could have a space for offloading a centerbeam and have a car spot for the freight house for the occasional supply car. You could pave over the track next to the freight house for a team track or put a partial dock between the track and the layout edge to help indicate what this track is for.

Yep, you nailed it! Just now looked at your map link and pavement everywhere matches reality the best.

Working on Porters again.  I made a few stacks of old ties from my scrap/junk pieces of track and placed them from google maps pictures

I made the road too wide, so I cut it down.  Caught a Swift driver coming thru when I was taking pictures.

Then I heard a hell of a noise...

Driver forgot to raise the landing gear on the trailer when he left PH Gladfelter.....

You are making much faster progress than I do! Those grade crossing signals look good, are those available on Shapeways?
